'ENVELQ Applica-tien le 'Beeember 31, will.
To all whom/fir may concern:
Be it known that i, lnnnn Feen-- ois, e citizen of elle United States, residing,n et Birmingham, in tlieucounty of deilferson and State of lebeine,'hfive Vinvented new und useful lmproveinenis in Envelope, oli which the following is e specilieetion.
The invention relates to envelope, and ylies for un object to provide :in envelop of a sirnple and durable construction which will readily accommodate itself to articles eil various sizes for the purpose ol conveniently sending the same through the mails or the like.
The invention embodies, among other features, the provision of an envelop Which consists of a back and iront end :i flexible securing strip connecting the back sind front to provide e receptacle adapted to receive articles, e sealing liep being arranged in e flexible and yieldingporti'on of the strip to close the opening to the receptacle.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the'accornpenying drawings, constituting o part of this specifi cation, inlwhich similar characters or reference denote corresponding parte in all the views, sind in which:
Figure 1 isI e, front elevation of the envelop, showing the sealing flap in open position; Fig. 2 is a, rear elevation ci the envelop, the sealing liep being shown in closed position; Fig. 3 is e horizontal sectional view teken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is e vertical transverse sectional view 'taken on the line flin Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the views, disclose :in envelop l0 consisting of a back 11 end a. iront 12, preferably mede of cloth.
such as linen or the like, the seid beck and front 11 sind 12 being rectangular end of substantially the seme size, with the beck adapted to lie on the front so that the edges of the beck end iront will meet. An Ielesu tic yieldable securing strip 13 nreferebly mede of a rubber fabric or the lilre incluses the longitudinal edges of the beck and. front 11 and 12 and e plurality of edjecent transyerse 'edges of ehehe-ick and front, with one edge of the securing strip secured by ineens of glue or the like to the front end the other edge similarly secured to the beck. lilow it will be epperent that when 'the beck and frontll and 12 ere secured" together es men tioned there will be provided eY receptacle 14 into which articles can be reec'lily pierced,l
leienred Jen. i9, lele.`
senin ne. Searle,
the eine oil Athe receptecle being; ediipted to be yirecreased decreased in accordance with the sir/,e of the article placed therein, 'this be ing due to elle feet that the securing strip 13- of en el-estic er ilex'ilile nature.
A tnenererse securing strip l5 entends rrensversely across the open end of the receptecle lllend has anedge `thereof projectingbeyond anedge of the front 12 to which the securing strip 15 is preferably gummed or otherwise secured. Ai sealing flapv 16 is guinined or otherwise secured vto the projecting portion or edge of the securing strip i5, and it Will be epperent that when the sealing liep is folded over on the beck 11 enel gumined or otherwise secured thereto, the securise;r strip 15, constituting e yielding connecting ineens between the sealing ep and :front l2 will erint of readily sealing the receptacle lli Wltliout danger of 'the seeling' liep 16 tearing or becoming disengaged from the front l2. Thus it will be apparent 'that Whereas in the ordinary envelo now gener-elly used only an article or e llmited Width or size een ne placed in the envelop :is the front and beek would tend to tear apart, due to the feet that the material from which the envelop is manufactured, .and which is usually peper., would not stand the strein exerted along the folding lines of the iront end beck if en article of e large size were placed in the receptacle formed by the body of the envelop, in my device, when en article oi' 'u large size is placed in 'the rer cepis-cle formed by the front and back, the
iront und beck will relatively expend or be moved apart, due to the fact that there is e yieldzible connection between the front and beck, and this is also true of the sealing Hep which is yieldingly vconnected to the `front of the envelop and adapted for rigid connection with the back.- 4
inasmuch es l preferably form the front, beek and sealing flap or' my envelop of linen or some other 'fabric l preferably secure en address plate 17 of paper or the like to the front 12 end upon which the address of the party to Wl'iorn the article is sent is adapted to be inscribed in the usuel manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: l
es e new article el* inenulaeture, en envelop consising .el liront end e beck, mated to here their longitiidinel edges rele-z tively elined, iv/itl one of: il eroseed edges oir' the iront menti l', e yield able securing strip 'overlapping the iongitudinnl edges and the .alining cross edges, with the edges lof the securing strip secured to the face of the front and back whereby the said securing strip will yieldingly hold the front und back and form therewith a receptacle haring an opening at oneend, swidopening being adjacenteto the ends of the securing strip, a transverse yieldable securing strip carried by the front and' ex tending-across the other cross edge of the front, with a portion of the transverse se- Icuring strip projecting beyondl an end of the front, and a sealing Hap secured to the projecting portion of the transverse secur- 15 ing strip and adapted for connection with the beek to provide a yielding Iseni or olosllre for the receptacle, one edge of said transverse yiedable securing strip overlap ping the face of the front edge thereof overlapping the face of the seaiing iap.
. in testimony whereof I atiix my signitureA i 1n presence of two Witnesses.
