PRESSURE-PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1915.
To all whom 2'25 may concern Be it known that we, ALFRED KKSTNER, residing at Essen-on-the-Ruhr, Germany, and FRIEDRICH STOCK, residing at Essen- Riittenscheid, Germany, both subjects of the Emperor of Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pressure-Plates, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to pressure plates for wheeled gun carriages intended to prevent the trail-end from burying itself too deep in the ground. If such a pressure plate is given enough width, that is, has so large a dimension in transverse direction of the trail, that it will be efficient even on very soft ground, it will interfere with the wheels of the gun barrel transport wagon, when the latter is pushed over the trail of the gun carriage into the position for shifting the gun barrel from the gun carriage to the transport wagon.
lhe object of the present invention is to provide a pressure plate of this kind for use on soft ground, in which plate the above mentioned disadvantage does not exist.
In the accompanying drawings, an embodiment of this invention has been illustrated and Figure 1 shows a side view, partly in section, of a trail-end with spade and pressure-plate; Fig. 2 a top View of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 a cross section along line 33 of Fig. 2, seen from the left.
The trail-end A has near its rear end a spade B B comprising the spade-shaped blade B and the pressure-plate B. In order to enlarge the pressure surface of the pressure-plate B, a second pressure-plate is provided, which in this embodiment consists of three parts C C C The part C of this pressure-plate is permanently secured, as
for instance by rivets to the trail end, while the two extension plates 0 C are secured to the part G and the spade B B in an easily detachable manner. For this purpose, two bolts 0 c are fastened on each of the extension plates C and C To accommodate bolts 0 sockets c are provided on the part C, and for bolts 0, sockets b on the spade B B. The bolts 0 may be locked in the sockets c by means of key pins 0. The extension plates C C are unnecessary when firing on hard ground, but they are attached to the part C and the spade B B in the manner indicated on the drawing, when firing on soft ground. The extension plates C C will then prevent the trail end or the spade from digging too deep into the ground. Before the gun -barrel transport wagon is pushed over the trail of the gun carriage, the plates G C are removed, so as not to interfere with the wheels of the transport wagon. The plates 0 C may be carried separated from the trail. In transportation, the weight of the gun carriage would then be lessened by the weight of the extension plates 0 G which is of great importance, particularly with guns of large caliber, as in that case, the side plates would be of considerable weight.
We claim 1. A pressure plate for gun carriages comprising a main plate and two side extension plates, said main plate consisting of a rear plate and a spade; attaching means for the extension plates having male and female interengaging members permanently secured on the respective plates; said attaching means allowing of easy detachment of said extension plates from said main plate.
2. A pressure plate for gun carriages comprising a main plate and two side extension plates, said main plate consisting of a rear plate and a spade; attaching means for the extension plates having male members on .said extension plates and corresponding female members on said main plate; said attaching means allowing of easy detachment of said extension plates from said main plate.
3. A pressure plate for gun carriages comprising a main plate and two side extension plates, said main plate consisting of a rear plate and a spade, both permanently attached to the trail end of the gun carriage;
attaching means for the extension plates 1 comprising bolts carried by said extension Ban-men, Germany,tl1is 25th day of October; plates, sockets for said bolts carried by the 1911. s 7 main plate and locking keys for securing said bolts in said sockets; said attaching 2% V means constructed to allow of easy detachment of said extension plates from said In presence of main plate. CHAS; J. WRIGHT,
The foregoing specification, signed at HELEN NUFER.
