IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-POLISHING MACHINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l [2,533, dated March 14, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Eznn B. BLAGKWELL, of Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Shirt-Polishing Machine; and Ido hereby4 declare that the following is a full, elear,and exact description thereof, which and momentarily, whilefthe pressure is regulated by an adjustableweight. ilhis obviates the varying pressure of the hand.

It also consists in an improved construction ot' the hand-polisher. It also consists in the use of a single rod or.

handle, weighted at one end, pivoted at the other, and passing through an eye of the tool near the center.

Ain the drawing represents the box shaped polishing-tool. It is made of suitable metal, and either open on top, shown, to receive heating-slugs, coal, or other heating devices,

or it is quite closed, so that it may be heated by steam, gas, or heated liquid let into it.

The bottom of the lpolisher A is made convex at its lower face, on of inverted truncated conical form, butrounded at the point, so that it will polish with said rounded point a. This gives greatereffect to the operation of polishing, as it concentrates" more than can be done by a iiat surface.

The upper part of the polisher A carries a yoke or strap, b, to which an eye, c, is affixed. Through this eye is tted a rod, d, which is, by universal joint c, pivoted to an arm, f, which, in turn, is pivoted to ears g g, that project from the floor, wall, or other fixed part of the room. The rods d j' constitute thus a jointed frame. The free end of the rod d has a handle, h, by means of which it can be moved at will. j

The tool A is locked to the rod ol by a set- .screw, t, in any desired position, but can be adjusted thereon at will.

j is a weight suspended from the free end of the rod d and adjustable thereon. B is a table or platform of suitable kind.

The articles to be polished are placed upon the table and the polisher heated and moved over the surfaces of the goods, the weight pressing it down With suiiicient energy for the desired effect, although pressure by hand can be added. i

The jointed rods permit the tool to be moved in every direction over the goods, to polish the same throughout.

' Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desirel to secure by Letters Patentl. The reciprocating hand polisher A, pressed bya uniform weight, combined, as described, with a iiat table, B, so that a push-V ing movement will operate it Without the unequal pressure oi' the hand.

2. The improved ironing-tool, consisting of the part A a, strap b, and eyepiece o, put together as described. j

3. The combination, with the eyepiece c, of the actuating rod or handle d, having the adjustable Weight j thereon, as and for the purpose described.
