Be it known that 1, ARTHUR P. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Dumping- Stop for Drag-Line Excavators, of which the following is a specification.
ln the operation of excavating and other transporting apparatus comprising a track cable or runway and a dumping carrier mounted thereon, it has heretofore been customary a desired point to control the dumping operation of the carrier, this stop being commonly adjustable by the release and tightening of clamps forming a part thereof but, so far as I am aware, requiring manual manipulation at the point of application and requiring the stoppage of the apparatus during the adjustment.
The object of my present invention is to produce a stop button of such construction that it may be readily adjusted at different points in the length of the track without stopping the operation of the apparatus as a whole, such adjustment being accomplished from a distant point.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.

In the drawings, 10 indicates a track cable which, in the present instance, is indicated as of that type which is held taut and in an inclined position during load transportation and is slackened to permit the eX- cavating apparatus to be dragged along the surface of the ground in order to become lled. Mounted upon the track cable 10 is an excavating carrier 11 of any desired construction having a material carrying bucket 12, the dumping operation of which is to be controlled by engaging the stop S arranged in the path of movement of the carrier 11 or one of its associated parts and most conveniently arranged upon the track cable 10. The precise type of dumping bucket and carriage is not material, because there are many devices now on the market to attach to the track cable a stop at is a plan in partial horizontal the dumping operations of which are controlled by a stop or button mounted upon the track cable.
My improved stop comprises a main shell 13 having a tapered or wedge-shaped chamber 14 and an end bore 15 through which the track cable 10 is threaded. At its rear end the shell 13 is provided with a pair of parallel ears 16 and 17. ears 16 is a pin 18 lying at right angles to cable 10 and pivoted upon this pin is the upper end of a lever 19. Ear 17 carries a pin 20 which is in alinement with pin 18 and pivoted to this pin, at an intermediate point in -its length, is a lever 21. Arranged Extended through along the upperand lower sides of chamber i 14 are two series of rollers 22 and 23. Lying between rollers 22 and cable 10 is a wedgeshaped friction shoe 24 having a semi-cylindrical socket 25 adapted to partially embrace the cable 10. Lying between rollers 23 and cable 10 is a wedge-shaped friction shoe 26 having a semi-cylindrical socket 27v partially embracing track cable 10 in opposition to the socket 25. The'two shoes 24` and 26 are connected attheir rear ends by a pair of plates 28 which are, in the present instance, rigidly secured to the lower shoe 26 and pivotally secured to the upper-shoe 24 by a cross pin 29 which cross pin also passes through a slot 31 formed in the upper rear end and projecting laterally therefrom, is a pin 33 which ,passes through a slot 34 (dotted lines Fig. 2) formed in lever 19 below its pivotal support 18.
In operation, my improved stop button is mounted upon the track cable 10 and lines 19 and21 are extended rearwardly from the levers 19 and 21 respectively to any desired point and by allowing these two lines to run slack the button will slide down along the track cable and when the desired position is reached, the operator will pull upon line 21', whereupon lever 21 will be swung upon its pivot 20, thus operating to pull shell 13 rearwardly and force the wedges 24 and 26 forwardly, thereby crowding the shell andwedges together so as to clamp the wedges upon the track cable, whereupon, when the dumping bucket is f brought up into engagement with the shell A Oi of the shoes 2&1 and 26 upon the cable 10. 1f a dumping position higher up on the cable is desired, the operator will pull upon line 19, swinging lever 19 upon its pivot 18 so as to drive the shell 13 forwardly and draw the wedges Q4 and 26 rearwardly away from rollers 22, whereupon the wedges will be no longer crowded against the cable and the stop may be either drawn upwardly along the cable by a continued pull on line 19 or may be allowed to slip along the cable 10 by a. driving force applied with the dumping bucket until a desired position of dumping is reached, whereupon a pull upon line 21 will again clamp the button in place. It will. be readily understood that this dumping stop may be placed upon the track at either end of the dumping bucket, depending upon the character of the said dumping bucket and the position where dumping is (flesired and, of course, if the stop is placed beyond the dumping bucket relative tothe-power plant, the lines 19 and 21 should be carried over suitable supports on the carriage 11. It will also be readily understood that the stop mechanism may be so associated with the carriage 11 as to normally move freely back and forth with it without interfering with the operation of the device so long as provision is made for a sutlicient relative movement between the dumping mechanism of the carriage and the stop whenever the stop is clamped upon the track cable by a pull exerted on line 21.

. 1. An adjustable stop comprising a main body formed for threading upon a track, a clamping member carried by the main body and formed to be shifted into and out of clamping association with the track, and a pair of operating members associated with said main body and said clamping member, said operating members. having port-ions both extending in one direction along the track whereby force exerted upon one of said extended portions will clamp the clamping member upon the track and force exerted upon the other of said members in the same direction will release the clamping member from the track. y
2. An adjustable stop comprising a main shell formed to be threaded upon a track, a pair of wedge-shaped clamping shoes carried by said main shell and wedgingly cooperating therewith relative to the track, and two levers pivotally associated with said shell and wedges whereby a force exerted upon one of said levers will draw the shell and wedges together and force exerted upon the other of said levers will separate said shell and wedges.
3. An adjustable stop comprising a main shell and a cooperating friction shoe formed to be threaded upon a track and having a wedging interaction, and a pair of levers pivotally associated with said shell and friction shoe whereby a pull upon one of the levers will draw the shell and wedge together and a pull upon the other lever will separate the shell and wedge.

In an excavating apparatus, the combination of an inclined track, a load-transporting and dumping bucket movable along said track and comprising a member for controlling the dumping operation of the bucket, a stop associated with said track and movable along the same in one direction by gravity, a clamping member associated with said stop for clamping the saine upon the track, and means operable from a distant point for shifting said clamping member to clamping position, and means operable from a distant point for shifting the said clamping member to releasing position.
5. ln an excavating apparatus, the combination of a track cable, a load-transporting and dumping carrier slidably mounted on said track cable, a stop slidably mounted. upon said track cable, a clamping member associated with said stop, a pair of levers connecting said clamping member and stop, a pair of operating members extended each from one of the levers along the track cable to one end thereof whereby pull upon one of said operating members will clamp the stop upon the cable and pull upon the other of said operating members will release the stop.
