The Schedule 3:referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it `may concern:
` Be itknown that I, WNDEL VONDERSAR, of Indianapolis, iu the county of- Marion andState of Indi- 'Vana, have invented a new and valuablelmprovement `iuVehi`cleBolts and' Head-Block; and 'I .do hereby de'clare that the followingis a full, clear, and, exact descripti'ougof thecoustruction and operation offkthe Same, reference` bcinghad tothe annexed drawing making apart of thisspecicatiou, and to theletters `ai'id figures of reference' marked thereon.` Figure 1 'of the drawing `i's a representation of my -king-bolt. i Y
l Figure 2 is a'frontviem Figure 3 -is a central verticalk longitudinal section. The first' part of this ,invention consists liu a headblock of' peculiar construction for vehicles.
VThe second part of the invention consists in a king-- bolt of peculiarconstruction,` designed? to be lused with the said head-block. i l I The vthird part ofthe invention consists in the combiuatiou ofthe aforesaid` devices Withother parts of a vehicle, hereinafter more fully mentioned.` l
The head-block A isfmade `of iron, inthe form h shown iuythe accompanying drawing. Ou its upper side there is a rectangular notch, bb, to receive the wooden springblock G, upon which the spring- D rests. On each side of its' hase it is provided with lugs e e', "to which are fastened, by means of nuts, theclips fj", that'passaround the spring D, spring-block O, and
l" head-block A, holding them firmly ref rether.4 Itis nneatly tapered and shaped `to its extremities, and the l upperplate of the fifth-wheel G is connected to it by "bolts, as shown. It is provided on the under side with central rectangular notch4 for the reception of the iron portion of the coupling H, which extends alouf.
"the whole length of and is bolted to the woodenfportion of the coupling Hh', and isy notched near its forward end, so as to couplein the notolron' the under side ofthe head-'block A,-as shown.
" v The' front'ofthe ,iron portion oi' t-he coupling His h `A`tapered and `projected a little forward of the headblock A, as a support to 'the` iron brace K, vwhich passes around downward and backward, and is connected to the under side ofthe axle Zand iron portion of the,
coupling H by bolts and nuts, as shown.
The wooden portion of the coupling H is held firmly against the spring-block O by being bolted` to `the iron portion o'f the coupling H and the iron brace; m, which is `connected to the king-bolt-N above the` spring D. i The king-holt N passesthrough the spring D, springblock G, head-block A, and iron portion of'- coupling H. It is. provided with a central male-screw thread,
o,vto fit in a female lscrew in the iron portion ot'- the coupling;H,'and with a shoulder; 1;, upon whichfthe iron portion of the coupling H rests. It is also forked atits lower end, 'a u', to receive theaxle Q, to which itis firmly held by a plate and nuts, ass'hovvu. It is held in position by means of a' screw-thread and nut at its upper end, the nut prcssingupou the spring D. It is-of a peculiar tapering. shape'and construction, which give it ample strength Wherethe straiu'is the greatest.
The constructionv and arrangement of devices thus presented form, it is believed, a valuable improvement in'vehicles. Y
I claim as my iuvention- 1. The head-block A,pr'ovid ed with notch b b', lugs e e', and constructed substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.. l
2.,.Lhe fking-bolt N,provided with the male-screw thread o, shoulder p, and' forks u u', and constructed substantially as and for the purposev set forth.
The vcombination of the bead-blockade, springblock O, coupling HH', and king-holt N, substantially as specified and shown.
y 4. The combination of the lhead-block `.\A.,.spring,. blockO, spring D, coupling H H', king-bolt N, axle Q, fifth-wheel G, and. braces .K and' m,.substantially as specified and shown. h In testimony thatI claim the abovevl. have here uutofsubscribcd my name in the presence of two wit;-
