TEMPORARY BINDER LOOSE-SHEET HOLDER.
Liemers.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1915.
Application fue@ January e, i913. serial no. 740,448.
To all whom t may concern:
i Be it known'that I, REINHOLD KRUM- MING, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Iisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Temporary Binders or Iioose- Sheet Holders, of which the following is a specication.
rIhis invention relates to improvements in temporary binders or loose sheet holders.
The main objects of this invention are, first, to provide in a temporary binder or loose sheet holder of the post type, an improved securing means for the adjustable binding or clamping member. Second, to provide in a binder of the post type, an improved clutch securing mechanism for the adjustable binding member, which is simple in structure and not likely to get out of order yin use, and one which is simple and easy to operate.
Further objects, and objects relating tov structural details, will denitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. j
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming. a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a plan view of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. II is a detail longitudinal section taken on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. I. Fig. III is a transverse section taken on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. I, the leaves being omitted. Fig. IV is a perspective view of one of the clutch control slides or members. Fig. V is a detail section taken on a line corresponding to line 5 5 of` Fig. III, showing structural details of the clamping member.
In the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the binding pins or postsil are mounted upon the bar 2', which, in the structure illustrated, is rigidly secured to the cover 8. The adjustable clamping member illustrated, consists of the bar 5 and the channeled housing piece 6, mounted on the bar. The housing piece is preferably secured by turning the ends of the top of the housing down between its sides, and arranging the tongue-like projections 7 through holes 8 provided therefor in the bar. rlhe clamping member is transversely slotted to provide post engaging openings 9, which open at the rear side of the clamping member so that itv can be slipped onto the posts. A clutch spring l0 is secured to the bar 5 between the posts so that its ends project into the post openings to engage the posts. The clutch is controlled by the slides 11 which are arranged in the housing piece to engage the ends of the spring. These clutch control slides are preferably formed of pieces of sheet metal folded, as shown in Fig. IV, and provided with L-shaped slots l2 adapted to register with the post openings 9 when the slides are in their releasing position, and to close said openings when the slides are in their locking position. The lower arms of the slides are provided with downward cam portions 13 engaged under the ends of the clutch spring. See Fig. III. The upper arms of the slides are provided with catch lugs 14C adapted to coact with the slots.
rIhe slides are supported on the stems 15 of the finger pieces 16 which are arranged through longitudinal slots 17 in the housing member 6. The ends of the slots serve as stops to limit the movement of the slides. The side walls of the housing piece coact with the finger pieces in supporting the slides.
The parts are shown in their engaging position. When it is desired to release the clamping member the slides are pushed toward the posts which raises the ends of the spring out of their engaging position and also opens the post slots of the binding member, so that the binding member can be removed from the post by a lateral movement. To engage the clutches, it is only necessary to shift the slides outwardly which allows the ends of the spring to swing down to engaging position. The clamping member can be pushed downward on the posts when the clutch is in engaging position as the tendency of such movement is to swing the ends.
of the clutch spring up. An upward pull on the clamping member causes the spring to engage and bind or grip more'tightly.
In the structure illustrated, I provide a top cover 18, which is connected to the clamping member by the flexible hinge 19. The cover may, however', be any desired form and constitutes no part of my present invention.
My improved clutch mechanism is simple and economical vin structure and very convenient to operate. l have illustrated and described my improvements in a simple and effective embodiment.
Although l am aware that considerable variation or modification in structural details isv possible without departing from my invention, desire to be understood as claiming the structure speciiically in the form illustrated as well as broadly within the scope of the appended claims.
vHaving thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
