Be it known that I, ARTHUR S. KNXGHT, a. subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident oi Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for incandescent-Lamp l ilaments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to electric incandes cent lamps and particularly to tubular lamps having straight filaments extending from end to end thereof.
The object or" the invention is to provide 2. lamp of the character indicated that shall 5 embody si epic and effective means for maintaining the filament taut and spproxr mstely central Within the casing.
The use, in incandescent lamps, of very long tungsten, molybdenum or similar metsllic filaments which become pliable and sag under their own weights upon being heated to incsndescence, requires the provision, in such lamps, of means which Wil. maintain the filaments tout under all con ditions, and, at the some time, Will permit of ready expansion and contraction of the illsnients Without subjection to undue sersins. The desired results may be secured, in s. tubular lamp, by dividing filament into sections and placing suituble tension devices between scent sections. The present invention provides an especially advantageous means for performing the desired function and also for supporting the filament opprolstimstely Within, out of on gsgement with, the tubular casing.
