To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES DAY, a citi- Zen of the United States of America, residing at Arnold, in the county of l/Vestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Valves for Glass-Drawing Machines, of Which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to air valves, for glass drawing machines, and more particularly to a valve for automatically controlling the supply of air to a drawing head or apparatus for producing a glass cylinder or tube.
The present invention particularly refers to that type of air valves disclosed in my pending application filed under date of May 1, 1913, Serial #764,915, and more particularly to a simple, durable and inexpensive valve that will practically accomplish the same results as the valves disclosed in my application above referred to, without resorting to a gearing or mechanism for simultaneously operating two valves. In other words, I combine the two valves into a single valve that has a novel adjustable port controlling bushing which permits of the valve being used in connection with an apparatus for producing cylinders or tubes of various sizes.
The present invention aims to provide a valve embodying a novel body, plug and an arrangement of parts by which a low or reduced pressure of air can be obtained for the production of a cap and then a high or greater pressure of air admitted to the cap to form and maintain a cylinder or tube as it is drawn from a pot or other receptacle.
My invention further aims to provide an air valve by which a pressure of air can be quickly increased or decreased and this is accomplished by a novel ported valve plug.
My invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed and refer ence will now be had to the drawing, wherein:

An air valve in accordance with this invention comprises a body 1 having a tapering plug seat 2. One end of the body 1 is closed by a wall 3 and the lower part of said wall is provided .With a wide port 4, while the upper part of said wall has a small port 5. The upper end of the plug seat 2 has the walls thereof provided with an annular tapering seat 6 for a port controlling bushing 7 that has the upper end thereof flanged, as at 8 and countersunk in the top of the valve. The bushing 7 is adjustably held in the seat 6 by a cap 9 that is screwed upon the upper end of the body. The cap has a central opening 10 for a tapering plug 11 and the lower end of the plug is reduced, as at '12 and rotatably held by a nut 13 screwed thereon. The upper end of the plug has a shank 14 whereby it can be easily rotated by a wrench or other instrument. The plug 11 has a transverse tapering opening 15 and the upper end of said opening is closed by the inner end of the bushing 7.
The plug has a port 16 in communication with the opening 15 and said port is adapted to aline with a port 17 in the bushing 7,
whereby communication can be established between the port 5 and the opening 15. The port 17 of the bushing is also in communication with a by-path 18 formed in the wall of the seat 6 and to control the communication between the ports 5 and 17 the valve body is provided with a regulating screw 19 ghat gnisers the port 5, as best shown in Figs.
The valve body has one end thereof coni small pressure of air can therefore be ob- I tained with the valve plug 11 in this position. By rotating the valve plug to the position shown in Fig. 4: communication can be established between the opening 15 and the port 4:, and by changing the position of the bushing 7, as shown in Fig. 4 a small quantity of air can be admitted through the port 4 to cooperate with the air that passes through the ports 16, 17, the by-path 18 and the port 5. F or a very small cap the bushing is positioned as shown in Fig. 3 when only a small quantity of air is necessary for the formation of the cap, but when a large cap is to be formed the bushing can be positioned as shown in Fig. 4 whereby air will enter the pipe 20 from the ports 4 and 5. Of course the port 4 is opened wide during the formation of a cylinder or tube.
It is thought that the operation and utility of the valve will be apparent without further description and I desire it to be understood that the invention is susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

A valve comprising a body having air inlet and outlet connections and formed with a plug seat on a Wall at one end thereoi", the said body provided with ports and a by-path, a port controlling bushing adjustably seated in said body and formed with path, a bushing seated in said body and having a port formed therein and adapted to register with the by-path of said body and a plug rotatably mounted in said bushing and having an opening and a port adapted to be placed in connection with the ports of said body.
