To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that we, WIKTOR PEJTA, BOLESLAW GRYMULSKI, and AMBROZY Bnnszoz, subjects of the Czar of Russia, and residing at Filbert, in the county of Mo- Dowell and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in horseshoes.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a removable calked shoe readily attached and detached from the usual construction of iron shoe secured in the ordinary manner to a horses hoof.

A further object is to provide an auxiliary shoe provided with calks and a spring clip mounting means for ready engagement with a horseshoe.

A still further object is to provide the usual horseshoe with an auxiliary shoe attached to the tread portion thereof by means of engaging spring-pressed hooks readily manipulated for slipping the auxiliary shoe in place and also for removing the same at will while the desired formation of calks are carried by said auxiliary shoe.

"With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and wherein like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a horseshoe with the present invention mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line 33 of Fig. 1, and, Fig. 4 is a similar view taken upon line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

Referring more in detail to the drawings,

the horseshoe 10 of substantially the usual construction is illustrated having the heel calks 11 thereof provided with inwardlyinclined faces 12 and also having notches 13 in the attaching edge 14: of the shoe. An auxiliary shoe 15 smaller in size than the main shoe 10 is provided with the toe-call:

16 and said shoe has any desired number of removable calks 17 positioned thereon. The auxiliary shoe 15 is provided on one side of its inner periphery with upwardly projecting hooks 17 adapted to seat within the notches 13 of the corresponding peripheral face of the shoe 10. The opposite inner face of the auxiliary shoe is provided with U-shaped brackets 18 for receiving shiftable hooks 19 while springs 20 are positioned within the brackets 18 for normally compressing the hooks 19 against the adjacent edge of the auxiliary shoe.

The complete operation of the device is ,believed to be apparent from the above detailed description in that the auxiliary shoe is adapted for attachment to the main shoe 10 by first engaging the rigid hooks 17 within the notches 13 of the main shoe and then inserting the spring hooks 19 in the opposite notches of the main shoe by first depressing the springs 20. The spring hooks 19 are readily removed from the notches 13 by depressing the springs 20 by grasping the projecting heads 21 of said spring hooks and then forcibly removing said hooks, whereupon the rigid hooks 17 are readily detached.

While the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be the preferred embodiments thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that various forms and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What we claim as new is 1. A device of the class described, comprising in combination with a horseshoe provided with inner peripheral notches and heel calks, an auxiliary shoe, rigid hooks carried by said auxiliary shoe, Ll-shaped brackets upon said auxiliary shoe, shiftable hooks positioned within said brackets and having projecting heads, springs within said brackets normally engaging said shiftable hooks, all of said hooks adapted for seating within said notches when the auxiliary shoe is positioned upon the first-named shoe.

A device of the class described, comprising a main shoe provided on its inner periphery with oppositely-positioned notches and also having heel calks with inclined inner faces, an auxiliary shoe having inclined heel portions and adapted for seating upon said main shoe in contact With the heel calks thereof, rigid hooks carried 'by said auxiliary shoe and reinoi- 'ably en- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
