Description

CHARLES W. BULLOCK, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO FAIRSIMO GLUE COMPANY, INC., OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
WATEBEROOF GLUE OR CEMENT AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME.
Patented J an. 12, 19159 No Drawing. Application filed March 24, 1911, Serial No. 616,576. Renewed'ltiay 22, 1914. 8eria1 No.
To all whom it mayconcem:
\ a'strong and thoroughly reliable and pracits moisture, can be tical glue or cement suitable for gluing paper, wood, leather and various other substances, which is impervious to water and quickly and easily prepared, for use, and 1s inexpensive to manufacture. l
The glue or cement is composed of the following ingredients in approximately the,
proportions stated, to-wit: Animal glue, 90 ounces; zinc oxid, 8 ounces; chromic oxid, 8 ounces; lead carbonate, 16 ounces; and sufficient water, to make gallons of the solution, to which is added about 60 to 90 pounds of animal glue.
The product is made in the following manner: The first named amount (90 ounces) of; glue is dissolved in 15 gallons (more or less) of water, after which the zinc oxidis added and the solution heated, preferably in a Water bath, for about ten minutes. -The chromic oxid and 5 gallons .(more or less) of water are then added and the mixture is boiled for about 5 minutes.
Then the lead carbonate and 10 gallons "(more or less) of water are added and the mixture stirred thoroughly whereupon lead oxid is precipitated. After the precipitate has settled, the clear solution is preferably,
though not necessarily, drawn ofi'. Sixty to ninety pounds of glue is then added to the solutio J The above namedproportions of the ingredients and the described method of makng theglue can be varied somewhat and still produce a glue which is satisfactory for some purposes, but the described formula and method produce the inost satisfactory glue or cement for general use.
described is of a'jelly-like consistency and of whitish color. Before using the glue it is heated until it is thin enough to be readily spread in a thin even coat on the surfaces to be glued together. When the glue sets it forms a very strong adhesive, which is practically unaffected by Water or moisture."
I claim as my invention:
1. A waterproof glue or cement comprising the following ingredients in approximately the proportions stated, to-wit:- glue, 90 ounces; chromic oxid, 8 ounces; lead carbonate, 16 ounces; sufficient water to make a solution of 30 gallons, and additional glue, to 90 pounds, substantially as set forth.
2. A waterproof glue or cement comprising the following ingredients in approximately the proportions stated, to-wit: glue, 90 ounces; zinc oxid, 8 ounces; chromic oxid, 8 ounces; lead carbonate, 16 ounces; sufficient water to make a solution of 30 gallons, and additional glue, 60 to 9 pounds, substantially as set forth.
3. The herein described method of making Waterproof glue or cement, consisting in dissolving ounces (more or less) of water to make about 30 gallons of the solution; and then adding 60 to 90 pounds f(mofie or less) of glue, substantially as set ort CHARLES W; BULLOCK. Witnesses:
A. L. MCGEE,
C. W. PARKER.
