Description

UNITED STATES,y PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES E. PERKINS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IM PROVEM ENT IN BALE-TIES.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 112,375, (lated March 7, 1871.
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, JAMES E. PERKINS, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved Bale- Tie; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawin g are suiiicient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improve- :ments without further invention or experii ment.
'bight over the link, and is secured by slipping a movable band over this bight.`
Referring to the aocompanyin g drawing for a more complete explanation of my invention, Figure 1 is an edge view of a short tie of my invention. Fig. 2 is a at view of same.
A is a strap of suitable material, having one end, a., bent back so as to form a bight at b.
This bight incloses one side of alink, c, which may be putin loosely, or it may be secured. The strap, being of suicient length, is passed around the material to be secured with the end a folded beneath and` against the bale, and the end el is passed through the link opposite the bight b, and after being drawn as tightly as possible it is folded back upon itself', as shown, so that the two sides of the link are inclosed in the two bights b and e.
In order to secure the end which folds outside, a loop or strap, f, is slipped over the folded end, as shown, when the tie will be completed, thus forming a cheap and expeditious means of securing bales of goods or other -things, and also making it easy to take the tie oi at pleasure and use it over again.
What 1 therefore claim is- A bale-tie, A, having the folded ends a and d, in combination with an open rectangular link, c, and the loop f, when constructed and operated substantially as herein described.
In witness that the above-described inven-\ tion is claimed by me I have hereunto set myhand and seal.
JAMES E. PERKINS.
