, useful Improvements in vStreet-Spiinlrling I Devices; and. I do hereby declaro the following to be e full, clear, and exact description o `the invention, such as Will enable others 4skilled in the nrt. to which it apperteins to make and use the sume.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements'in sprinkler apparatus and has particular reference to that type of such devices as are peculiarly adapted for use in s street sprinkler system.
lAs its chief object, this invention Centernv plates the provision of an improved arrange ment of Water 'conductors by means of which streets may be quickly and thoroughly sprinkled. y i,
' A further Aobject is to provide o. struo y ture which shell lie-capable of sucheadjusb ment that it will easily meet all needs and requirements end'which will be adapted Vfor use under any conditions which may arise.
A still further object is t provide a sprinkler which may be 4embedded loelou7 the surface of s street und whose' projecting cup or sprinkler top will constitute no obstruction to the passage oi vehicles upon the street;
AAn object of equal importance with the foregoing is to provide esprinkling device of the type described, which is constructed with such regard to proportion, number und arrangement of part-s as to be cheaply msnu- Pictured will be durable and eliicient in operation and may be readily installed with a minimum expenditure of time and labor V'and without requiring any alteration in the construction` I .The above and additional objects are so eomplished by sucheppratus as are illustrnted in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claim which is appended hereto and for-ms a art of this application.
Vith reference to thev drawings wherein l here illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, end throughout the seeral view-s o which like characters of referencedesignste similer parte: Figure i in e vertieel seetion of Speetoation of Letters Potent.

my sprinkler es positiored below the Sur- .fece of the street with the sprinkler cap proecting shove seid surface and in operative s,
position. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section teken on the plane indicated by the lines 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a similar View taken on the lines 3 3 of Figlr Fig. 4 is a dia rhinmatic view-of e system including s p' urality of my sprinkling units.
In taking up the description; f the Asti-ue tural features of my invention I will first here particular reference to Fig. l in which one of my sprinkling units is'most clearly shown as en entirely. A
The numeral 1 designates a. water mein-of4 the usual construction located some distance below the surface of the street and provided l with the three way union 2 in the upper part of which is positioned the supply pipe 3. The mein portion of mysprinkling devioe comprises `e tired pipe 4 and a' movable pipe 5 adapted for longitudinal displacement' -within seid pipe 4. -A suitable sleeve pipe 6 internally screw threaded-as at-T'upon each extremity for portion of the`length thereof is threaded upon the lower extremity of the xed pipe 4 und' the upper er:-A tremity of the supply pipe 3 in suoli meu ner that u water tight jointis" formed.
The sliduble inner pipe is internally screw threaded as e118 for the portion-odjacent its upper extremity and externally screw threaded as shown at 9 upon its lower` sev extremity. Theinternelly screw threaded ring 1f) is threeded upoirthis lower entr-einity of the pipe 4 and is adapted to-be ernbraced by the-sleeve 6 in slidable relation` thereto, On the upper face of this ring 1.0 I provide an opstanding inverted V-shnped ex'tension 11 which is formed integrally .therewith and which is adapted to engage in a correspondingly shaped notch 12 which is formed in the lower edge of theliixcd pipe s, said notch and seid extension serving the purpose to be hereinafter clearly hro'uoht out. Suitable resilientmeans such as tlhe expendiifipr spring 13 is adapted to be posi-v tioned within the sleeve pipe 6 veuri-minding Y A' the lower extremity ofthe slidable pipe 5 and is adapted to bear upon the shoulder Atermed within the sleeve pipe 6 by the upper
