Description
Patented Mar. 7, 1871.
` Jaz/altar Cooking Sltove.
I, WILLIAM N Moonn, of the village of Neenah, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin,
`-in Cooking-Stoves, of Whichthe following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which-- Figure 1' represents a longitudinal vertical section f taken online x so; y Figure 2,'a similar' sectionon line y y; and :Figure 3, a plan view, with the top 'plate removed;
`iean improvement` on the stove shown and described by 'me in the speciications of patent No.` `96,526, issued to me November .16th, A'. D. 1869; an i Q .Its ,nature consistsrin the application of a permanently-'attached' plate tothe hot-air chamber, over the center draught-ilne, so vthat the heated. air and products of combustion will pass through the hot-air chamber at all times, when plateK is stationary, and in the vcombination of a hotfair chamber with a warmingehamber. V l' To enable others skilledin the art to make and use my improvements, I will" describe their construction and operation. l
That portionywhich is infront of the escape-flue I,'being of aliiytusualnor desirable construction, is f-notshown; but asuitable construction will be found inthe patent hereinbefore mentioned. Inl the drawing l i i A represents' a top plate, extending over'the entire stove. L i y B,the space 'or flue between the top plate and the oven.- :0
C, the top plate of the oven. D, a-section of theoven.
E, an additional back plate. F, a partition-plate, dividing the space between plates Naud E into an air-chamber above and a warmfing-chamber below. i
G,`the airchamber. H,`the warmingehamher. i
I, the plate placed overthe center draught-ii ue. J, `divisi `in-plates` continuing, the vseparation of the center ascendingiiue from the Vside diving-lines.
K,a stationary plate, connecting the plates J 'in the space B.
ThisA vplate may be hinged and operated as al damper, if desired; but I prefer to attach it permafnently. y Y j i L represents the ascending center ilue.
have invented certain new and useful Improvements This' invention relates to `cookingstoves,` and Y Willmann Moons, orv NEENAH, wisconsin.V
` i. a Letters Patent No. 112,3711 aan March 7,1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN cooKlNG-s'rovss.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and malin'g part of the same. v
M, the back plate of the oven, which forms one of tom with flues, between the base-plate S and the oven,
in the usual manner.
vThe products of combustion, when thedamperO is turned up, pass over the-oven, down the ilues R,
forward to the front, and return through the center iiue, up due I), and against the plate I, where, by 'reason of `its construction and its .projection out into the hot-air chamber, the currents are distributed through said chauiber, and, impnging against its sides, are returned over the plate Las indicated by tbearrows l and 2, and, uniting in the iiue formed by the plates J and K, they pass into and out of the escape-'flue P.
When the damper O is turned down or backoierthe fines R, then the current is divided, and` that, -when the plate K is made stationary, the
productsof combustion pass into the chamber G at all times whatever the position of the damper O may be'.
`The plate I Ais made plane at the back, and .is curved in front, as shown; but its form maybe va ried, however. v v
The curved or 4front portion projects out into the `chamber G,'and at the middle comes in contact, or
nearly in "contact, with the' plate F', to which it is riveted cr otherwise secured. 5 y A By 'making the plate I in this'form, and by using the partition -'plat'e F, I am `enabled to make the hot-air chamber Gr much deeper, and, by reason of its depth, I can use, in connection with it, a deeppitted or 'sunken boiler and other stove furniture applicable `to the top of a stove; and, by extending the plate li out horizontally, or nearly so, the' warming-chamber H is applied without any considerable expense, and without any additional parts, the parts forming it being simply extensions ofthe plates necessary 'to an ordinary stove.`
The hot-air and the warming-chambers are loadditiouto the ordinary cooking-stove, and when applied@tethe back of a stove, as shown, make a. complete stove in its form Aand operation, and' 1. The plate I, when constructed and operating add greatly to its use and convenience. substantially as specied.
I operate it with a. single damper, so that its 2. The combination of the fines R and L and use is as simple and its action als direct as the ordamper O with the chamber Gr, plate I, andthe ue dinamy stove. or box J K, substantially as described.
Having thus fully described my improvements, Witnesses: WILLIAM N. MOORE.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- L. L. BOND, ters Patent, is" E. A. WEST.
