ALEXANDER C.A ,PHIL-LIPS, OFHIGAGO, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patentl No. 112,277, dated February 28, 18.71.
vIMPROVEMENTl IN SHOW-CASES FOR SPOOL-THREADS.
'The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.V
To all lwhom 'it may concern: v
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER 0,'Pmnnrrs, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain Iinprovementsin Gases for Spool-Thread; and I-do herebydeclae that vthe-following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being hadA to the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is afront elevation of la case for spoolthread, made in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2is aplan vievvofc fig. 1,',the -top or cover beingl removed. j
Figure 3 is a front elevation of a modification. of my invention.
Figure 4 iS .llplan view of' fig. 3, the top orcover being removed.
. General Description.
Myfinvention relates to-a case for containing spool thread, which is iliade with a glass front, andwhich case in closes a reel or revolving upright cage of vertical wires, upon which wires are placed or threaded, so to speak, the spools.
Spools'ot various colored thread may be placed inv this case, and the colors separated by arranging all of one hue upon a single wire.
This forms a very' convenientl case for merchants and dealers who desire to exhibit the thread; a spool of any particular size or color maybe selected and taken from the case ateneo-,and withoutauy Search.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use myinveution, I will proceed to describe the same with particular-ity, making reference, in so doing,A to the i aforesaid drawing. g
Ais a substantial cabinet or case, with the front of glass, or it may have all four of its sides glazed.
Bis a vertical shaft, with bearings at top ard bottom of the case A.
This shaft carries at the top a horizontal plate or wheel, C, which is prei'erablyof a diameter nearly as" large as the interior of the case.
A number of' Wires, I), are attached to the wheel U, and:A depend vertically therefrom, extending to within a short distance of the bottom of `the case, as
,i -Will `more clearly appear by reference to lig. 1 of the drawing. y
The shaft B carries at bottom a second wheel or plate, E, of a smaller diameter than the wheel C, and from this latter wheelE projects a series of horizontal radial spring-arms, G, corresponding in number to the' wires D, and so arranged that the outer ends of the springs come directly under said wires. Them is, however, a small space left between saidsprings and wires, as shown at d.
The spools are placed upon the reel by'depressing the springs, and threading the spools one at a time upon the wire. -f
lt may be found convenient in placing the spools,
to invert the case, so that the-spoolsI as fast as threaded will vfall to the top ofythe wires. g
The spools may be readily removed by depressing the' spring under any desired particular wire, when the weight of' the spool will lcause it to fall into 'the hand. z
YWhen in position, the weight of the spools rests upon the springs G, which hold them upon the wires.` Figs. Sand 4 of' the drawing, as above stated, ex-y hibit a 'modification of my invention, in which one or more horizont-al wheels e, are carried upon the vertical shaft B. v
The wires D are in this-instance attached, at their lower endaand the spools are placed-upon said` wires vby simply slipping them upon the wires at the upper ends thereof, which are free for that purpose.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 1. The combination of a glazed inclosing-case and a revolving reel 4ot' vertical wires, as and for the purpose `specified and shown.'
2.- Thc combination of the vertical shalt B, carrying wheels C and E, withl the wires D and springs G, substantially as described and shown, and for the purpose speciiied.
