`IMPROVEMENT IN PAPERfFOLDING MACHINES.
The Schedule referred tb in these Letters iatent and making part of the same.
lb all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHNIMGADAMS, of Brook- Y lyn, in the conntylof Kingsland State of New York,
`have invented ccrtainr-new and useful Improvements .in Machinesior `Folding Paper and other Material`s,
applicable to fthe folding lof ballots and to other pui-poses; and do hereby declare that the following `and` other materials for various-purposes, is mainly designed for and `will here be described exclusively with reference to the automatic folding of ballots,
whereby time and'` labor are economized, and a close and accurate folding of said articles is produced and l' the saine delivered in packages or .piles ready for use.
The invention consists in acombiuation of feedingrollcrs with a stationary doubler or folding-trough or troughs, according to the number of folds required;
Also, incornbinaton with one or more ldo'ublers or b .i'oidcrs, of a presser, composed of endless belts, through which the'doublcd ballot or article is-passed or drawn. Likewise, in a receiver' or packing-receptacle provided-with a yielding follower4 and a. belt-conductor, between which andthe follower the folded articles as they come from the presser are fed in succession till a pile of the requisite sizeor thickness is obtained between said belt and follower.

in advance of` cach other, to andl between upper and lower feeding-rollers, B B 'and C O', and between India-rubber or other suitable feeding-belts, D D', made `to connect, respectively, said upper and lower feeding-rollers, the one or upper pair, B B', of which are arrangcdwitllin a doubling-trough, or, as' it may be termed, doubler or folder E,' while the other or lower pair C C', work through a slot, l), in the bottom of thedoubler or folder, and which is covered by the belts D D. l These belts serve to guide and feed in a soit but positive manner, free from anyy liability to tear, each ballot .or blank in succession, and to1 pass it through the doubler or folder E, which is of a boatlike form to effect `a longitudinal foldor doubling` of the `ballot as it is drawn or propelled by the feeding devices through `the open front end c of the doubler.
Another doubler or folder\vith feeding-rollers or devices, may be arranged in front of the' doubler E to receive the ballot as it issues from the first doubler, and so on for any number of donblers witlrfeeding devices in succession, the one in advance oi the other, and each succeeding one turned to occupy right-angled positions to its preceding one, in the saine gen* eral line'or travel of the feed, forthe purpose of forining 4a succession of doubles in the ballot; but a single doubler, E, will sufticeto explain .the action ofY thev machine, it only being necessary to arrange the subsequent folding and packing devices, as hereinafter described, with reference tothe position of the last doubler, which, so far as said devices are concerned, thedoubler E maybe supposed to be.
