Specification of Letters Yatent.
Patented Dec. 22, 1914.
Application led May 5, 1914. Serial No. 836,529.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT J. Es'rEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ooalgate, in the county of Ooal and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Tmprovements in Capsules, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to capsules of the kind ordinarily made of gelatin and adapted to contain medicinal substances, the object of the invention being to provide a capsule in which one of the parts of the capsule is so constructed as to facilitate its entrance into the other part of the capsule, thus 'allowing the sections of the capsule to be more conveniently and quickly assembled when filled with the medicinal substance.
Tn the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal section ,on an enlarged scale through a capsule embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the portions or sections of the capsule disconnected.
It is well known that it is difficult after two sections of a capsule are filled with the desired medicinal substance to fit the two capsule sections together, and this is particularly the case when the capsule sections are tightly filled, as the medicinal substance tends to spread the ends of the capsule sections so that they will not easily fit together.
The particular purpose of the present invention is to provide a capsule construction which overcomes this objection, and renders the operation of assembling the sections of a single capsule easy, and reduces the amount of time and labor in filling a large number of capsules at a time.
Referring to the drawing, 1 and 2 designate the capsule sections, which, as stated, may be made of gelatin or other suitable material. The ends of these sections are designed to telescope, whereby they may be fitted together, the section 2 being made of somewhat greater length than the section 1 for that purpose. Ordinarily, the open ends of the capsule sections are made square or at right angles to the body of the capsule, by
opieai of this patent may 'be obtained for ve cents cach,
which difficulty is often found, as set forth, in assembling the sections owing to the spreading of the ends of such sections by the pressure of the contained mass of medicine. `F or convenience of description, the section 1 may be termed the body section anld the section 2 the cap section of the capsu e.
1n order to overcome the objections to capsules of ordinary construction above noted, I provide one of the capsule sections, vpreferably the body section 1, with a beveled end portion 3. By this construction the extremity of the beveled end portion 3 may be conveniently fitted Within the other capsule section, thus allowing the capsule sections to be easily, quickly and conveniently united after having been filled. By this means the inconvenience and trouble ordinai-ily experienced in fitting together the sections of a single capsule is avoided, and the structure described accordingly allows a large number of capsules to be consecutively filled at a saving of a great deal of time, annoyance and labor.
I claim 1. i medicinal capsule formed of gelatin and composed of telescopically engaging sections, one of said sections having its end cut away at an angle to facilitate the engagement of said sections.
2. A medicinal capsule formed of gelatin and comprising telescopically engaging sections, one of said sections having its end portion cut away at an oblique angle to facilitate its insertion into the other section.
3. A. medicinal capsule formed of gelatin and comprising telescopically engaging body and cap sections, the body section having its open end portion cut away at an angle to facilitate its insertion into the open end of` the cap section.
1n testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
