Description

E. W. CARPENTER. DEVICE FOR HOLDING ORNAMENTS 0N NEGKTIES.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 24. 1914. 1 9 1 w 2M 0 Patented Dec. 22, 1914.
DEVICE FOR HOLDING ORNAMENTS 0N NEOKTIES.
Specification of Letters Patent;
. Patented Dec. 22, 1914.
Application filed April 24, 1914. Serial N 0. 834,284
ewelry, in position on neckties of the fourin-hand type.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a simple device which, when arranged in connection with the usualscarf, will lie in the rear thereof so that it will not be visible to the ordinary observer and which is particularly adapted for holding and mental rings or bands which are slipped over the tie and which, when simply arranged loosely thereon, tend to turn and become displaced.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure l is a fragmentary perspective view looking at the rear face of the tie, and showing the application of my device thereto; and Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken through-a tie, an ornamental ring and the device, showing the manner of holding, the ring on the tie.
Referring more particularly to the views, 1 provide a member 10 preferably formed of a single piece of material to provide a frusto-conical or tapered head lljand a reduced fiat shank 12 formed at its lower end with a clip or other attaching member 13. The member 10 is adapted to be used in connection with a tie or scarf 14 in order to support an ornament 15, such as a ring or I 1 the like, thereon, and in the use of the device the ring or ornament is first slipped on securing in place orna to the tie by passing the ends of the tie through the same, after which the member 10 is placed in the rear of the tie and moved upwardly so that the head 11 will pass through the ring or ornament, thus securing the tie between a portion of the ornament and the head, with the said ornament wedged down upon the head as shown. The head is preferably tapered to accommodate different sized ring portions on the ornaments and when the member has been arranged as mentioned the clip 13 thereof is preferably engaged with one of the ends of the tie, thus holding the member in place,
while the engagement of the ornament or ring with the member will. prevent the ring from turning or becoming displaced on the tie so that the ornamental or fanciful portion of the ring will be in the front and will be held clearly visible, whereas the means in the shape of the member 10 for holding the ring'vvill be invisible to the observer.
The device described can be made of metal such as aluminum or any other convenient material, and it will be clearly apparent that it can be made from a single piece of material, thus insuring cheapness of manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a necktie ornament holding device consisting of a single piece of material formed to provide a tapered circular head, a reduced shank and an attaching member on the shank, with the tapered head adapted to be en gaged by the necktie ornament to wedge the ornament on the head and the necktie between the ornament and the head, with the attaching member adapted for connection with the tie in the rear thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
