Stillwater, in the county of Washington and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fold- 4 ing Berry-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in folding berry boxes, and one'of the objects of the same is to provide a berry box of this tially the construction,

type which will be simple, and durable in construction and effective and efiicient in use, adapted to be constructed of a single piece of suitable material such as straw board, veneer, card board, or any other stock adapted for the purpose, and in which the parts when combined and set up will materially brace each other and hold the same from collapsing, and which parts may be readily separated or detached to permit the box to be collapsed for shipment purposes.

To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the invention con.- sists in the features of novelty in substancombination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention and. in which,

Referring more particularly to the drawin and in the present exemplification of this invention, the blank, designated generally by the reference numeral 10, is provided with the folds or creases 11, 12, 13 and 14 extending thereacross to form the sections 15, 16, 17 and 18, which sections constitute the side walls of the box, which latter is rectangular in cross section. The section 15 is provided with a portion 19 while the section 18 is provided with a portion 20 projecting from the edges thereof and this latter portion 20 is provided with a crease 21 extending thereacross to form a tab or portion 22. Projectingfrom the edge of the section 18 is a portion 23 which portion is secured to the section 15 adjacent the edge 24 thereof to hold the sections together. Projecting from the section 15 and parallel with the extension 19 is an extens on 25 having'a tongue 26, and an exten- $101127 pro ects from the section 17 and is provided with any desired number of slots 28, two being here shown. The extension 27 18 preferably somewhat shorter than the extensions 19, 20 as is also the extension 25, but the combined length of the extension 25 and the tongue 26 is preferably of a length substantially equal to the extension 19. The blank thus formed is provided with creases 29, 30 extending lengthwise of the blank, the crease 29 being disposed adjacent the edge of the sections 15, 16, 17 and 18 and upon which crease the sections 19, 20, 25 and 27 are folded, while the crease 30 intersects the sections 19, 20, 25 and 27 so that when the sides of the box are set up, the portionsbetween the spaced parallel creases 29, 30 may be folded into the bottom of the frame. With the blank thus formed, the portion 23 is first secured to the section 15 adjacent the edge 24: thereof and the frame thus produced is adjusted into a rectan-gularshape. The section 20 is then folded upon the lines 29, 30 and the lip or portion 22 is folded upon the line 21 and is then inserted [into the frame formed by the walls of the box, so that the edge 29 of the portion 22 will stand substantially flush with the crease 29 between the section 16 and the extension 19. The extension 19 is then folded on the lines 30, 29 and inserted into the frame of the box to extend across the section 20 and to rest thereagainst, while the portion 22 of the extension 20 will be housed between the section 16 and the portion 30 a between the section 16 and the extension 19. The sections 25 and 27 are then folded in such a manner over the bottom of the box to permit the tongue 26 to be inserted through the slots 28 and under the portion 31 between the slots,.and these two connected sections 25, 27 are then forced into the bottom of the box and over the extension 19 until the extensions 25, 27 rest against the lower face of the extension 19 and the edge 32 of the extension .25 will slightl overlap the edge 23 of the extension 2 When the parts are thus assemcollapse the box,

and adapted to be bled and folded, it will be manifest that they will brace each other to form a rigid construction. and the box will. be held against collapsing. When it is desired to disconnect the extensions 25, 27 and unfold the sections 19,20 after which the box may becollapsed for shipment (purposes in the manner shown in Figs. 2 an 5. Y

While one manner of folding the box has been herein described, it is of course, understood that the parts may be folded in any suitable manner to assemble the parts which will be convenient to the operator. What is claimed as new is 1. A folding berry box constructed from a single piece of sheet material and comprising side walls constituting a frame, ex-

tensions projecting from the lower edges of opposed Walls and foldable into the frame to overlap each other and form the bottom of the box, both extensions extending across the frame, and one of the extensions being of a length greater than the other extension and having its extremity bent to form a tongue portion adapted to be inserted between the folded portion of the other exto overlap eachother and form the bottom of the box, both extensions extending across the frame, and one of the extensions being all that is necessary is to all of the parts of a length greater than the other exten- 46 -s1on-and having its extremity bent to form against the first recited extensions, one of the second recited extensions being provided a tongue connected with with a slot, and the cooperating extension, and adapted to be inserted in the slot for detachably securing the parts together.

3. A folding berry box constructed from a single piece of sheet material and comprising side walls constituting a frame, extensions projecting from the lower edges of opposed walls and foldable into the frame to overlap each other and form the bottom of the box, both extensions extending across the frame, and one of the extensions being of a greater length than the other extension and having its extremity bent to form a tongue ortion adapted to be inserted between the olded portion of the other extension and the wall of the frame adjacent said' folded portion, extensions projecting from the lower edges of other opposed walls and adapted to be folded into the frame. and against thefirst recited extensions, and means detachably securing the second recited extensions together, said frame and extensions being collapsible and foldable one uponthe other when the said extensions are disconnected and unfolded.
