SWIVELED-POST CHECK AND FOOT-VALVE FOR DEEP-:WELL PUMPS, 660.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.
Application filed January 16, 1914. Serial No. 812,548.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Brr'rs PACE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Talladega, in the county of Talladega and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in swiveled-Post Checks and Foot-Valves for Deep-ll ell Pumps, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in swiveled post checks and foot valves for deep well pumps, etc., and the object in view is to produce a simple and efficient device of this nature and which contains various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l'is a central vertical sectional view through a sectional valve casing and illustrating the valve seated. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the valve open, and Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of the valve in a plane at right angles to the plane of Fig. 1 and vshowing the manner of connection of the valve with the swiveled post.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A and B designate two sections of the valve casing which have threaded connections at G and to the open threaded ends of which pipes, not shown, are adapted to be connected. Fastened to the wall of one section is a bracket arm D having an aperture E formed therein, in which the shank portion F of the post ,F is swiveled, a nut, designated by letter H, being mounted upon said shank portion and a key I is passed through an aperture 1n the latter and serves to hold the post in place.
The valve is designated by letter N and has two upright projections Orspaced apart and provided with registering apertures for the tilting movement of said valve whereby the latter may not move to an upright position but merely to an angle so as to insure the valve closing by gravity when pressure is released therefrom.
By the provision of a valve embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that the same cannot swing to a vertical position which might tend to prevent.
the valve seating by gravity and the valve mounted as shown will swing above the valve seat a suflicient distance so as not to interfere with the flow of fluid through the casing and the post carrying the valve being swiveled will serve as a shock absorber by allowing the valve a perfectly free movement in different directions as the liquid comes in contact with the valve when passing through the casing. By the provision of this manner of mounting the valve, the latter will wear uniformly upon its seat, insuring a tight foot at all times. It will also be noted that, by the provision of a valve made in accordance with my invention, the swiveled post will give the valve instant movement from its seat at all points, thus eliminating any drag of the valve on the seat and which otherwise might cause an uneven wearing of the parts and, when closed, will be relieved of weight or friction.
lVhat I claim to be new is 1. A swiveled post check and foot valve for deep well pumps, etc., comprising a cas ing having a suitable valve seat therein, a projection upon the wall of the casing, a post swiveled upon said projection, and a valve pivoted to said post, as set forth.
2. A swiveled post check and foot valve for deep well pumps, etc., comprising a casing having a suitable valve seat therein, a.
bracket member projecting from the inner In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my Wall of the casing and having an aperture signature in presence of two Witnesses. therein, a post swiveled in .saidaperture, a c H BITTS PAGE valvehaving apertured lugs projecting from 1 y v 7 the face thereof, and a pin passingthroug h Witnessesz said apertures and an aperture in said post, I W. R, THOMAS,
as set forth. J. W; WiLLIs.
