To all to whom it may concern.:
Be it known that L'SARAH C.EW11 G, of Indianapolis, in the cunty of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Patterns for Applying Measurements and Laying out Garments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
rI he nature of my invention consists in a system of actual measurement for cutting boys clothes and ladies and childrens dresses.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to `describe it, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a delineation 4of scales peculiarly shaped, and divided into ve sep -arate pieces with nine measures arranged upon it.
The measure of the neck, shoulder, chest, width of breast between the arms, width of back between the arms, length ot' front, length'of back, length of' waist, and size aroundv the waist.
A represents the front scale, which is used for draughting the front of all garments. On this scale there is a curve to shape the neck, arm size, and shoulder.
' B is the back scale, used for draughting the back of all garments, and is so shaped that it will give the height of back at center of neck, shoulder, width of back and arm size, by applying the measures.
" 0 is the square used in draughting.;` every separate piece of the garment, and has various scales upon it, as shown in the drawing.
D is the side body, which piece forms the side body and shapes the sleeve.
size ot' sacks and boys coats.
All these scales are represented in the drawing exactly one-half the regular size, and have the various lines, dots, figures, and directions, as shown.
Having thus fully described my'invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The patterns A,B, C, I), and E, shaped and graduated as set forth, and for the purpose described.
