STUDIDED APRON.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUY W. NELsoN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of lWlassachusetts,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Studded Aprons, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to devices for protecting the person and clothing of workmen and has particular reference to a novel leather apron.

In manufacturing plants, particularly in foundries where workmen handle castings or pieces of metal of irregular shape and rough or unfinished exteriors, the wear on the clothing of the workman is considerable.

This is particularly true in the operations of grinding rough castings on an emery Wheel when considerable force mustbe exerted by the workman against the article in pressing the same against the emery wheel. Leather aprons have been employed for reducing this wear but even this material becomes worn rapidly by abrasion.

It is an object of my invention to provide an apron which shall protect the clothing of the wearer in an efficient manner and which shall be of sufficient rigidity to lessen the discomfort when pressing the body against an irregular or sharp object. This result is secured in an apron composed of a plurality of thicknesses of sole leather.

The spaces between adjacent sections of leather is provided in order to accommodate the heads 19, of rivets or studs 20, the heads 21 of which project from the outer surface of the section 11 of leather.

These studs being placed inclose relation to each other form a substantially continuous bearing surface for an object pressed thereagainst, the wear or abrasion being taken by the studs and not by the leather composing the apron. By means of such construc-. tion the clothing of the wearer is protected and due to the stiffness of the article the body of the wearer is protected against sharp or angular portions of the object be ing handled. i

I claim;

1. In an apron, the combination of a pluralityof sections of leather superposed in spaced relation, and studs mounted in the outer section, said studs having heads located in spaces between said sections, substantially as described.

2. In an apron, the combination of a plurality of sections ofleather superposed in wardly from the apron, each strap being.

adapted to pass over a shoulder and downward under an arm of a wearer, and an additional strap adapted to pass around the body of the wearer, substantially as described.

4. In an apron, the combination of a plurality of thicknesses of leather, hard metal straps acting to space apart the thicimesses of leather, substantially as described.
