Description

D. G. LEIGH.
BACK BAND HOOK.
APPLICATION FILED 0012s, 1912.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
anventom DANIEL G. LEIGH, OF COLEMAN, FLORIDA.
OFFICE.
BACK-BAND HOOK.
Application filed October 26, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL G. LEIGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coleman, in the county of Sumter and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Back-Band Hook; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful back band hook.
As one of the objects of the present invention it is the aim to provide an essentially improved back band hook for supporting a trace chain adjustably with relation to the back band.
One of the features of the invention, is the provision of a pocket member secured to the back band, and adapted to receive a ratchet plate, which terminates in a transverse bar extending at right angles to the plate, and adapted to be disposed transversely of a link of a trace chain.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :-F igure 1 is a view in perspective of a back band, showing the improved hook as applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. Fig. l is a detail view of the ratchet plate.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a back band, to each end of which a plate 2 is riveted or otherwise secured as at 3. This plate is provided with an open ended pocket 4, which receives a ratchet plate 5, which terminates at one end in a cylindrical shank 6 having a transverse bar 7, which is disposed at right angles to the ratchet plate. In connecting the ratchet plate to a trace chain, the same is disposed so that the transverse bar will pass through the opening of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Serial No. 727,926.
one of the links 8 of the trace chain, after which the ratchet plate is disposed, so that the transverse bar will lie transversely of the link. The walls at the sides of the pocket are provided with openings 9, through which the pawls 01' dogs 10 (which are pivoted at 11 to the plate 2) extend, so
as to engage the ratchet teeth of the plate 5, in order to hold the same in various adjusted positions, so as to take up or let out the slack in the trace chain. The pawls or dogs are held in engagement with said ratchet teeth by means of the springs 12.
The description in conjunction with the annexed drawing sets forth an efficient improved back band hook, and one which has been found desirable and practical, owing to the fact that the trace chain will remain permanently supported, until it is desired to detach the same.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is A back band and trace chain connector, comprising a housing fixed upon the band, a member having a flat rectangular portion provided with teeth and slidably and vertically mounted in said housing, said member including a cylindrical shank extending downwardly from the flat rectangular portion, said shank at its lower end terminating in a transverse bar arranged to lie crosswise of the under face of one of the links of the trace chain for supporting the same, the rectangular portion acting to prevent twisting of said member and means carried by the housing to engage said teeth for holding the member in vertically adjusted position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
