r provide a device of this type which will hold a leg at any desired angle with respect to a horizontalplane.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type mentioned which will hold the leg in any position, considered circumferentially.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a structure of the sort hereinafter described which will permit tension to be applied to opposite sides of the leg.
The invention aims to provide a device of the type hereinbefore mentioned, the
supporting portion of which is longitudinally adjustable so as to be engaged readily with bed posts which are spaced apart at different distances.
It is within the province of the invention to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the descriptionproceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In carrying out the present invention there is provided a longitudinally extensible support preferably taking the form of a tube 1 and a bar 2 telescoped into the tube 1, the tube 1 being provided at its inner end with a collar 1 through which passes a set screw 3 adapted to engage the bar 1. The tube 1 and the bar 2 are bent adjacent their ends as shown at 5 in Fig. 1, to form offset feet 6 having terminally open slots 7 adapted to receive U-bolts 8 which may inclose the foot posts 9 of a bed. Nuts 10 are mounted upon the ends of the U-bolts 8 and serve to clamp the feet 6 against the foot posts 9. Surrounding the tube 1 intermediate its ends is a U-bolt 11 engaged in notches 12 formed in the upper and lower edges of a grip block 14 concaved on one end face as shown at 15 to engage properly with the exterior of the tube 1. The arms of the U-bolt 11 pass through a slot 16 formed in a vertical standard 17 constituting a part of the arm, the upper portion of the arm being represented by a head 19 halved into the upper end of the standard 17 as shown at 20, the head and the standard beingequipped with cooperating openings 21 receiving a bolt 22 provided at its ends with a wing nut 23. In the head 19 is formed a transverse opening 2-1 receiving a shaft 25 carryingpulleys 26. it flexible element is provided and the same is formed into a loop 27 passing around a sheave 28 carried by a pulley block 29 connected by eyes 30 or in any other suitable manner with a weight 31 which may be of any desired form. The ends 32 of the flexible element pass over the pulleys 26 and are terminally provided with rings 33 or any other suitable elements whereby the ends of the flexible element may be connected with the legof the patient, it being common in the art to apply a splint and to connect the splint by adhesive straps or the like with the rings 83, the details last above mentioned constituting no part of the present invention.
Owing to the fact that the main support comprising the parts 1 and 2 is longitudinally extensible, the device may be applied readily to any bed. v\bince the standard 17 is slotted as shown at 16 to receive the U-bolt 11, the standard and consequently the pulleys :26 may be raised and lowered to any desired extent. This operation is acceptable for two reasons. First, in order that the angle defined by the leg of the patient and a horizontal plane may be varied as required; and secondly, in order to permit the ends 32 of the flexible element to be free of any of the cross rails oi. the foot of the bed. Should it be impossible or undesirable to effect the adjustment above mentioned by raising the standard 17 bodily in a vertical direction, the same result may be accomplished by loosening the Wing nuts 34 on the ends of the U-bolt 11 and then swinging the standard 17 in a vertical plane, thus to raise or lower the shaft The clamp block 14 cooperates with the tube 1 to hold the standard 17 firmly against movement. By loosening the wing nut 23 it is possible to tilt the head 19 laterally and thus dispose the pulleys 26 at different heights. Thus, the leg of the patient may be adjusted circumferentially. Owing to the fact that two pulleys 26 are provided, the tension may be applied to both sides of the leg.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a great number of adjustments are provided so that the leg may be held in any desired position.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is z- 1. In a device of the class described, a horizontally disposed support comprising a tube and a rod mounted to slide in the tube; an arm secured to the tube independently of the rod to permit an adjustment of the rod in the tube; post-engaging means carried by the ends of the rod and the tube; a flexible element; means for applying tension to the flexible element; and means on the arm for receiving the intermediate portion of the flexible element; the rod and the tube being oflset to dispose the arm and the post-engaging means in different vertical planes.
2. In a device of the class described, a supporting structure; spaced means thereon for receiving a flexible element; a flexible element formed into a loop and engaged in said means; means for securing the ends of the flexible element to the leg of a patient; and a weight slidably and adjustably supported in the loop.
3. In a device of the class described, a head; spaced flexible elements; means for securing the flexible elements to opposite sides of the leg of a patient; means for applying tension to the flexible elements; spaced members on the head and receiving the intermediate portions of the flexible elements; and means for supporting the head for swinging movement transversely of the axes of the flexible elements thereby to adjust the leg of the patient circumferentially.

In a device of the class described, a head; spaced flexible elements; meanslior securing the flexible elements to opposite sides of the leg of a patient; means for applying tension to the flexible elements; spaced members on the head and receiving the intermediate portion of the flexible elements; means for supporting the head for vertical adjustment; and means for support ing the head for swinging movement transversely of the axes of the flexible elements, thereby to adjust the leg of the patient circumferentially. In a device of the class described, a horizontally disposed support; a standard having a slot, the standard being disposed transversely of the support; a securing element engaging the support and lying in the slot; clamping means onythe securing element and engaging the standard; a head pivoted to the standard; flexible elements; spaced means carried by the head for receivthe intermediate portions of the flexible elements; and means for applying tension to the flexible elements; the head being movable to dispose the intermediate portions of the flexible elements at different heights.
6. In a device of the class described, a support; a standard having a slot; a grip block interposed between the standard and the support; a U-bolt surrounding the support and straddling the grip block, the ends of the U-bolt passing through the slot; clamping means on the ends of the U-bolt and engaging thestandard; a flexible ele ment: means for applying tension to the flexible element; and means on the standard for engaging the intermediate portion of the flexible element.
7. In a device of the class described, a pair of flexible elements; means for applying tension to the flexible elements: means for securing the ends of the flexible elements to the opposite sides of the leg of a patient; a head; means on the head for receiving the intermediate portions of the flexible elements; means for supporting the head for radial swinging movement in a plane substantially at right angles to the said ends of the flexible elements, thereby to dispose the ends of the flexible elements at different heights, and to effect a circumferential adjustment of the leg of the patient, and means for holding the head in adjusted positions and against radial swinging movement.
