JOSEPH V. DAVIS, OF CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA.
ANCHOR FOR TEETI-I-FILLINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1, 1914.
Application lcd April 8, 1914. Seria1 No. 830,524.
To all wiz om it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrn VERNON DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Cabal-rus and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anchors for 'leeth-Fillings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dentistry and more particularly to improvements in anchoring constructions such as are used in filling or bridging teeth and the primary object of the invention is the provision of an adjustable anchor for attachment to natural teeth for holding fillings within cavities in the teeth.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of' parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of' a tooth showing parts thereof broken away to expose the improved anchorage attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective vien7 of a detachable sleeve using the anchor construction, and Fig. 4 is a central sectional view through a part of the improved filling anchor.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the body portion of a tooth which has a cavity 2 formed therein. The tooth 1 has the walls of the cavity 2 smooth and straightened when it is desired to lill the cavity of the tooth7 and recesses 3 and i are drilled into the tooth from the cavity 2. rI`he recess 3 extends toward the root of the tooth 1 while the recess l extends diagonally into the tooth body and toward the incisory edge of the tooth as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
An anchor 7 .is attached to the tooth body 1 by the diagonally projecting anchoring` pin S, which pin is seated in the recess l and tends to prevent the dislodgment of the filling. The anchor 7 is provided with a longitudinally extending centrally disposed internally screw-threaded bore 9 in which is adjustably seated the externally screw threaded pin 10. The angular relation of the anchor arm 8 and the screw pin 10,when adjusted in the respective recesses t and 3, holds the anchor 7 in the cavity 2. A detachable sleeve 11 is mounted about the anchor 7 and has a longitudinally extending slot 12 formed therein to permit oit' the pas sage ot' the sleeve 11 upon the anchor' 7, and to receive the anchor arm 8. The :filling 5 is formed upon the sleeve 1l and in the cavity 2, and is attached to the anchor 7 and the tooth 1 in the cavity 2 by cement or other similar adhesive material.
In mounting a filling in the cavity 2 of the tooth 1, the anchor 7 is properly positioned in the cavity 2 so that the anchor arm 8 will be seated in the recess Ll, after which the pin l0 is moved or adjusted within the anchor 7 so that the terminal end thereof which protrudes beyond the end of the anchor 7 will rest in the recess 3. |The angle relation ot' the anchor arm 8 and the pin 10 will hold the anchor 7 in the cavity 2.
The anchor 7 may be used with or without the sleeve 11 as the case demands. lVhen the anchor 7 is used without the sleeve 11, the anchor 7 is placed in proper position as aforesaid mentioned and the filling is placed 1n the cavity 2 about the anchor 7. IVhen the anchor 7 is used with the detachable sleeve 11, said sleeve 11 is placed in position about the anchor 7, the anchor 7 being in proper position. the filling 5, or pattern for the filling for filling in case of inlay work, is placed in the cavity 2 and about the sleeve l1, being attached to the sleeve 11. The sleeve 11 and the filling 5 are attached to the anchor 7 and the tooth 1 in the cavity 2 by means of cement or other suitable adhesive material.
In reducing the invention to practice certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. In an anchor structure for attaching fillings to tooth bodies, a hollow anchor having an angularly projecting anchoring `pin formed thereon for insertion into a tooth body, and an adjustable anchoring pin carried by said anchor body for engagement with a tooth, said angularly projecting an- Chor pin and said adjustable anchoring pin being disposed angularly to each other for securely holding said anchor body and a lling carried thereby attached to a tooth body.
2. In an anchor structure for attaching llings to tooth bodies, an anchor having an angularly projecting anchoring pin formed thereon for insertion into a tooth body, a second anchoring` pin carried by said anchor body for engagement With a tooth, said angularly projecting anchor pin and said second named anchor pin being disposed in angular relation to each other for securely holding said anchor body and the filling 15 carried thereby attached to a tooth body.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
