Description

G. ORERAR. MIXING DEVICE. APPLICATION F'LBD APE.8,1913.
Patented Dec. 1, 1914- INVIS TUE WITNESSES I @MWW n 9/ f 7 BY MTORNFf hi. dlrtlilti GEORGE CBERAR, OF S? Specification 01 Letters .F'atent.
To all whom it may concern Be it known'that. I, Gnome-a Canaan, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of l lashingtomhave invented ccr tain new and useful Improvements in Mixing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains: to a mixing device and has for its object to provide an in1- proved construction whereby liquids hold-- mg particles in suspension may be agitated. For example, for agitating a solution of potassiunr or sodium cyanid containing pan t-icles of pulverized ore, slime and line sand.
A. further object is to provide a Ineclnv nism of the character named that will. a tlord a practical ineans for adding a gas, liquid or emulsion to a mixture, for instance, for adding hydrated lime to a cyanid solution and carrying the same into the mixture in such a manner that the same may be speedily coimn'iingled therewith.
A still further purpose is to construct the mechanism in such a manner that all gen ring and Benin 5 are free from contact with the mixture, tie object of which will be apparent.
The invention will he hereinafter spec-ill Cally described and illustrated in the accornpanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a vertical sectional view of a tank filled With liquid, with my improved construction shown, Fig. 2, an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3, is an enlarged sectional view of the top of the tubular shaft, the gears attached thereto, a connecting thinlble and a brokezraway sectional View of a connecting conduit.
Centrally disposed within the tank 10 and vertically arranged is a cylinder 11 having an annular flange 12 at its base, mounted on brackets 13 to provide a space 14 between the base of the cylinder or flange 12 and the bottom 15 of the tank 10. The top of the cylinder 11 is provided with an annular curved flange 16. Brackets l7 reach from the flange 16 to the top wall 18 of the tank 10 serving to support the cylinder 11 and providing a space 19 between the top of the cylinder and the top of the tank for an inflow of the liquid 20 into the cylinden ll. Mounted at the tojioi the tank -10, vertically arranged and extending through the Pdflll il lll tllilllltlliii CRANE, WASHING'JL'QN.
DEVICE.
top v: ll l8 of the tank 10 and into the top end of the cylinder 11 is a shall 'Zl having a rertital opening Q52 through the Hilllll. 'lo the bottom of the shaft 21 are tlllat'llul the angular blades 23. .lloxiugs ill carrying suitable hearings engage the shalt til where it passes through the wall ll) of the tank 10,
Near the top of the shall; and horizontallysecured thereto is a gear ill), which meshes with a vertical gear 97 attached to the horizontally arranged shaft Wheels 529 are secured to the shaft 28 which may he coni'lccted to a source of power by belts connected therewith. Howe er, any ordinary means For rotating the shaft it]. may be used. The top of tl'u shall: ill is provided with an annular llangctltl having an internal annular groove 31. i A thirnblc 32 has an external annular flange 33 which engages the groove 31 in the flange 30, the
idea being to form a union that will permit ol'the rotation of the shaft 21. Without r0- tilting the thimhle 232. (linutioctcd with the thimhle 3:? is conduit b4 leading to a source of gas. liquid or emulsion sup 'ily.
The tank 10 is filled with the liquid 20 to a point above the llungie lti at the top of the cylinder ii. The power is applied to the shaft 321, rotating the same to the right. The llliltltn' 23 drive the liquid 20 downwardly through the lindcr 11 in the direction of theurrrmvla shown in the cylinder, thence out through the spare l4 between the bottom oi" the cylinder 11 and the hot tom 15 of the tank 1!). The rarelicutiou created in the top of the cylinder 11 by the displacement of the blades; 23 causes the liquid 20 to flow inwardly over the flange ill at the top of the cylinder ill, creating a continual movement; of the liquid in the diroetion of the arrows shown in the tank 10 and cylinder 11. Whenit is desired to add a new element td-tho mixture forming, the liquid 20, and to tipecdily and effectively commingle the sanie with the eoutenta of the tank 10, the same is supplied through the conduit 34- from which it passes through the thimblc 32 and the opening 22 in the Slltlfl] 21 to a point below the hladca 23, where the same receives the downward. force of the rotating}, blades 22.3 to drive it into rapid contact with the elements already forming the mixture. What i claim is,
1. A mixing device emnpriaing a tank Patented lien. in, 'ttl llal.
1913. Serial No. 759,621.
with dosed bottom and sides, a. cylinder having; an annular flange at, 130p and bottom vertically arranged and centrally isposed Within the tank reaching; from e point near the bottom of the-tank 230 a, point near the top thereof Wifll anofpem space between the end thereof and he iop and bottom respeo tively of the tank, e short shaft having blades at its lower enci mounted at the top of the cylinder and extending downwardly a short distance only below the top of the cylinder and Wishin the some and means above :he P'quici. areain the tank for rotating-J; the shaft.
2. A mixing devise oom'prisimg a tank with closed bottom and sides, a cylinder owing; an annular flange 3;: top and bottom verticelilv ill-longed and centrally disposed Within the tank reaching from e point near the boteom of the an to a point near the top thereof with on one space between the ones thereof and the Lop and bottom respectively of? the tank, e 'verfioally arrmigecl short shaft, with a vex-ties opening through the same 511161 blecies the bottom thereof mounted at t e to of the cylinder and ex; tending dowmverdly a, sheet; distance on'iy vertiealiy errongedand centrally disposed within the tank Teaching from a point the bottom of ifihe tank to a, point near the top thereof with an open space beirween the ends thereofc' and the top and bottom 1e speetively of the tank a vertically arranged short shaft with a vertical opening thmmgh the some and blaeies at the bottom thereof mounted at the mop of the cylinder and extending downwardly a short distance only beiow the top of the cylinder and. within the some, a, conduit connected with the top of the shaft and means foraromting the shaft.
