To all I /mm. it may concern lie it known that LIEuoY I Horr, a citizen of the United States of America, re siding at New York. in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Awnings. of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to awnings and has for its object to improve the construction of the awning as to enable of its being easily folded up and covered during the season when it is not in use. The new awning need not be taken off, but can be left on all the time so that its durability is greatly increased.

' \Vith this and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and Combination of parts as are fully set forth in the description and annexed claims.

Specifically referring to the drawing. n. denotes the awning which is formed with lateral triangular wings or flaps a that extend from the bottom to about the middle part and not as hitherto to the top of the awning.

The support of the awning may be the same as that described and shown in my former United States Patent No. 989,709, issued April 18, 1911, or may be of any other suitable construction. At each side of the awning there isthe ordinary vertical guide rod 7). along which theawning is guided during its up, and down movement. For folding and unfolding the awning there are the ordinary pulleys c and adjusting cords (I. At the bottom the front part of the awning material is fastened to a U-shaped bar 0. which at its ends carriessockets f that slidably are mounted on the vertical guide rods I). The wings or flaps a are free and are each provided with a spring hook 7 of any suitable construction, which are fastened to the back of the material by rings g or the like. Suitably fastened to each socket is a ring h with which the corresponding hook of the lateral flap a is adapted to be engaged, when the awning is down. When the awning is raised, the flaps are detached from the rings 12. and may be folded against the back of the front part of the awning and shoved between the adjusting cords d and the awning material. At the points a? where the flaps terminate there is an additional spring book i at each side of the awning fixed to the latter in the same manner as the bottom hooks g and adapted to be engaged with rings 7' loosely mounted in the vertical guide rods '1). By these additional hooks and rings the upper part of the awning will beheld flat in adownwardly directed position instead of projecting obliquely or roof like as the lower part does, and will thus act as a window shade. There being no lateral llaps at the upper part of the awning a free ventilation of air through the sides will be afforded. The ventilation may be increased by unhooking the sides from the rings j. making the wings or flaps detachable, the awning can be folded up into a narrow roll which will not obstruct the light at the upper end of the window and which allows of the use of the cover to protect the awning against the weather during the season it is not in use.

\Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
