To allablwia t concern:
4 Be itknown that-we, JOSEPH W. Snmnr,
. Tn-,fand ALBnR'rE. BACON, citizens of the United States, residents, respectively, of (Berwyn, county ofChes'ter, State ofPennl Sylvania, `and Germantown, county of Phila-` ,;delphia, StateXof Pennsylvania, have inl vented a new.` andi. useful Bath-Trap, of
i which the followingis a specication.
VOur inventionrelates `to improvements in traps.` v Y, f
l 4 The object of the invention is to provide animproved trap'especially adapted for use in connection with bath tubs, which will insure `an eiiicient and, continuous sealv between theQwaste'pipe and the tub and the ioor opening of the cleanout.
The invention also comprises-an enlarged reservoir adjacent the outlet nozzle of the` trap, of an improvedformationand adapted to insure the maintenance of the seal between the waste rpipe and vthetubiand clean e out in the event of siphonage.'
Other features of our invention are the formation of the `trap so that it `requires a minimum yof spacebeneath the. floor, a
threaded elbow outlet nozzle, and a detachable nipple in connection with the clean out,
adapted either vto permit the use of nipples of varying length for varying floor levels or `the adjustment;v of the threaded outlet n nozzle.
`Referring to the drawings F igure `1 is a centrallon'gitudinal vertical section. Fig. 2 is a verticalsection on line'2-2 of Fig. 1. i Fig. 43 is a horizontal section on `line 3 3 of f' Similar numerals referto similar parts throughout the several views.
The main casting or body 4 `is provided with the following nozzles or openings; the
BATH-TRAP.
whichextends the threaded nozzle 12 above referred to. 1
In the ope'rationoil ,our improved `trap the water from'the tub: rises in nipple 7 tothe level of the water in nozzle 12. When the flow `from the tub hasceased a body `of water, 4normally ,'Justzabove the threadedconnecl Patented Dec. 1, 1914. y

tions at outlet 11 and opening 6, will remain in` thedevice, `as shown in Fig. 1.` This forms an efficient seal between waste pipe 13 and the tub and the iioor opening of the cleanout, and, at the saine time, submerges the screw joints at openings 6 and 11.
If,,for any reason `during the ow of water from'the tub, siphonage should occur, the breakingof the seal between reservoir 10 and the chambers tothe left of curtain 9 sions andformation of reservoir 10 relative to the dimensions and ,formation of the lother parts of the trap andto the distance between the lower end of curtain 9 andthe bottom wall of the trap, are such `that when `air nally passes beneath curtain or apron v9 and reaches opening 11 yto break the siphon, a suffcient'bodyof water will fall back to maintain the seal between` waste pipe 13 and thecleanout and drain pipe.
- `The lthreaded elbow nozzle 12 isadapted to permit the connection between the trap and waste pipe 13 to be made from any one ofa number of positions of the `trap relative to the waste pipe, thus aiding in the location ofthe Ltrap in cramped spaces beneath the floor. In attaching said nozzle to the main casting "14, nipple 7 may be 'detached from the casting to permit the nozzle 12 to be .l turned above opening 6, when the nipple may be again screwed into opening 6. An-
' other purpose of having nipple 7 threaded into opening 6 is topermit the'interchangeability of nipples of different lengths to suit the varying ioor levels. p
. The cap 8 has a straight thread and is provided `with the washer 15 for engagement with -the top of nipple 7. The lower end of nipple 7 has a tapered thread engagement in openingv 6 of body 4. It is alsoto be noted that the greater extension` of main body or casting 4 is horizontal so that a minimum amount of space beneath the iioor isk required and that the formation and position of cleanout nozzle 6 relatively to the other parts of the trap, is such as toperrnt the ready cleaning of the trap'in the event of a stoppage inany part of the saine. What we claim ist-'- y l. A horizontally disposed bath trap comprising a single casting having a horizontally extending base parallel with the said chamber, the trap provided'at its other end with a restricted inletportion slightly above the plane of said base, and in the top ofthe casting to the inlet side of the spheri cal chamber with a cleanout opening.
' 2. A horizontally disposedy bath trap, comprising a single casting having a horizontally extending base parallel with the longitudinal axis of the casting, and provided lat one end, at the bottom of thetrap,
with 'an unobstructed spherical chamber of relatively large dimensions vhaving a discharge nozzleat the top, at theother end Withan inlet nozzle above the *plane of the horizontally extendingfbase and below the from the top ofthe castingfandb n cleanout and spherical jchambe e with a cleanoutvnozzle projecting; upwardly zontally' extending base parallel "with the etwen f a rela `-plane .of thetqpll of theffspherical lchamber, i' between the inlet and discharge nozzles longitudinal axisofJsaid body vand provided at one end with a relatively large spherical chamber formed in p'artifby v`saidand i having a discharge opening! at jthetop,` at the other end with' a restricted inletportion substantially midway between the planeof the top of the spherical chamberandQthe plane of" the horizontally extending; base, immediately to the "spherical-4 chamber; side of the restricted inlet y portion Aandaboveone end of said horizontallyI'extending base p, with an enlarged"cleanout portion,' smaller z in cross-section than the spherical chamber,
and between cleanoutportion and spherical chamber with Ia depending" Wall terminating above the plane of the bottoni of ythe restricted inletportion.- f y i 'i o.
