In Fig.4 of the drawings I have illustrated a knife which I find most practical in the paper trimming process, and which comprises a comparatively short narrow blade 14,; provided at the opposite ends with out warolly extending handles whereby the blade may be easily manipulated with the hands. These handles are preferably swiv- 15' eled upon the twists of made during the cutting operation. It is also to be observed that the knife is curved transversely, or hollow ground, whereby the kept in sharp condition by its continual frictional engagement withthev plate 4 upon the block during the cutting process.

It is to be understood that when it isfor-any reason to trim the found necessary longitudinal edges of a wall or other paper, the roll is inserted within the channel 3 of 7 the block, with the end thereof protruding beyond the outer face of the plate 4 such distance as it is desired that the edge be trimmed. In operating the knife the same is held firmly against the smooth outer face of the plate 4, sufficient inward pressure against the paper rollbeing imparted to the knife to cut through the several thicknesses of thesame at each move- I ment around the circumference of the roll.-

j It will be readily seen that a clean and accu rate severance of the paper may be had by this arrangement, and it is obvious that by reason of the paper roll being so positioned upon the block as to be spaced from the blade in order that various the blade may be conveniently paper roll in position at wall or support to which the device is attached, access may be had from all points in the circumference of the roll during the cutting operation.
