THE NORRIS PEYERS cu. PHOTO-LIT Ulll E S i EMERY MEREELLS WATTON, OF OLDTOWN, MAINE.
PLATE-LIFTER.
Application filed April 21, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EMERY M. l/VATTQN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oldtown, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plate-Lifters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, whicl form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in dish lifters, and comprises a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of my improved plate lifter, and Fig. 2 is a view showing the application of the device to an article to be lifted.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A and B designate the handles of the device, said handle B having an elongated slot B therein which has its forward end wall convexed or inclined, and K designates a jaw projecting at right angles to the handle B and is provided with a transverse semicylindrical groove L and teeth. The handle A is adapted to pass through the slot B and is pivotally mounted upon a pin C mounted in registering apertures in the walls of the slot B, and the inner edge of the portion of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 24;, 1914.
Serial No. 833,519.
handle A intermediate its pivotal point and its forward end is slightly concavcd and adapted to conform to and project over the convexed end wall of the slot I A jaw 0 having an elongated slot H therein projects at an angle from the inner edge of the handle A and projection I upon the handle 13 is adapted to pass through the slot Hand serve as a means to guide the jaws as the handles are opened and closed.
In operation, the wall of the dish to be raised is gripped intermediate the jaws F and K, the groove L serving as a means for the reception of the beading about the edge of the dish, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and serving as a sure means for securely holding the dish when gripped by the jaws.
\Vhat I claim to be new is A dish lifting device comprising a handle having an elongated slot formed therein, one end wall of the slot being convexcd and provided with a laterally extending jaw, the face of which has a transverse groove, said handle having a projection extending beyond the jaw and with its upper face flush with the face of the handle, a pivotal pin mounted in the walls of said slot, a second handle passing through said slot and pivotally mounted upon said pin and having a laterally extending jaw with an elongated operate with the projection upon the firstmentioned handle to guide the jaws as they are opened and closed, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
