GEORGE A. KNOBLOCK, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO SOUTH BEND CHILLEID PLOW COMPANY, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OFINDIANA/ ADJUSTING MEANS FOR PLOW-POINTS.
Application filed December a, 1913. Serial No. 804,992.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. KnoeLocK, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph The invention relates generally to an improvement in adjusting means for plow points, and particularly to a means for varying the suction of said points w th a view to maintaining the plowing efficiency of the implement. I
The main object of the present lnvent on is the provision of plow point ad ust ng means carried by the beam and cooperatmg with the standard with a view to varying the suction, or degree of. angle of the plow point with reference to the beam, the said ineans being adapted for simple operation and for convenient locking to maintain the predetermined adjustment.
The invention in the preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in wh 1ch:
Figure 1 is a broken elevation illustrating the application of the improvement to a plow. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a broken elevation, the view being taken from the side opposite that shown in Fig. 1. I
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown, primarily to illustrate the details of the present improvement, a plow beam 1, comprising the usual spaced sections, through which extends the standard 2 carrying the usual plow, or other appropriate implement 3 at its lower end. Mounted on the beam adjacent the standard is a lever A, having a latch 13 for engagement with the segment C to hold same in any desired position. The lower end of the lever s fixed to a rotative shaft I), which latter is connected with the opposite sides of the standard by arms E, E, secured at one end to said shaft, and their free swinging ends each provided with a slot F to receive a bolt G passed through the standard to provide a pivotal as well as a relatively sliding connection, and by means of which described mechanism the standard may be vertically adjusted. The details of these elements is not important, it being understood for example, that any usual orpreferred means maybe employed for vertically adjusting Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N 24, 1914..
the standard with relation to the beam,
though suchforms no part of the present nvention. v I
Secured to the plow-beam, between the strlps or sections in, the form shown,-is a bracket 4, comprising a vertical arm 5 and a diagonal or inclined arm 6. The bracket 18 preferably constructed as an entirety and bolted in place through the medium of bolts 7. The bracket at the juncture of the arms 5 and 6 above the beam is formed to provide a head 8, and beyond the head formed to provide a notched segment 9. The head is formed with an opening 10 in which is rotatably mounted a stub shaft 11 projecting slot connection 18. The locking lever and operating lever are formed to provide handles 19 and a spring 20 is arranged between the handles to normally maintain them spaced to seat the locking dog 17 in the adjacent notch. A pair of links 21 are pivotally connected to the standard 2 on opposite sides thereof and immediately above the beam, and at their opposite-ends mounted upon the bolt 7 connecting the lower end of the arm 5 of the bracket to the beam. A pair of operating links 23 are pivotally connected at one end to the beam 2 on opposite sides of the latter, and above the links 21, the opposite ends of the links 23 being eccentrically connected at 24 to the opposite ends of the stub shaft 11.
From the above description, it will be seen that by'means of the two pairs of links the usual vertical adjustment of the standard may be readily performed, while by actuating the operating lever 12,,and
continue to dig the same depth of furrow. to the standard and eccentrically connected The inventionis particularly adapted for to said member. 20 riding plows and seeders, though its use is The combination with a plow beam, of contemplated With any and all structures a plow standard, a link pivotally connect- 5 with Which it may be operatively associated. ing the standard and beam, a bracket se- Vlhat is claimed is cured to the beam, a member rotatably l. The combination With a plow beam, of mounted in the bracket, a link pivotally 25 a plow standard, alink pivotally connecting connected to the standard and eccentrically said beam and standard, a bracket secured connected to said member, means for operat- 10 to the beam, and means intermediate the ing the member, and means for locking the bracket and standard including eccentric opmember in adjusted position.
erating means for adjusting the inclination In testimony whereof I afliX my signature 30 of th e kstandagd with relation 1to the beam, in presence of two Witnesses.
2. 1e com ination witi a p OW eam 0' 15 a plow standard, a link pivotally connecting GEORGE KNOBLOOK' the standard and beam, a bracket secured to Witnesses: the beam, a member rotatably mounted in ADOLPH S. GINz, the bracket, and a link pivotally connected GEORGE'J. OLTSCH.
