To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT FALK, a citizen of the United States, residing at lNew York, in the county'of New York andState of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Packing Tobacco, of whichv the following is a specification.

Thisinvention relates to the subject of packing tobacco and like merchandise, and

the primary aim of the invention is to provide-a package for such merchandise that is hermetically sealed against the admission of air and moisture so that deterioration of the contents of the package is prevented.

The invention contemplates a package ineluding a main wrapper that is formed of material that is not affected by atmospheric influences, seal for the wrapper thatis also of material that is not affected by atmospherie influences and which prevents air or moisture gaining access to the contents of the main wrapper, or outer wrapper that incloses the 'main wrapper and seal, andl which is adapted for advertisements, notices, and a seal for the outer wrapper which, when tobacdo or other'taxed merchandise is contaiiied' in the package, maybe a revenue stamp.

In carrying out the objects of the invention as generally stated above, it will be apparent that the same is susceptible to changes in details and structural arrangements, one simple and practical embodiment being shown in the accompanyingdrawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved package. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view, the outer wrapper. being removed and one end being shown unsealed. Fig. 3 is an end view showing the main wrapper scaled. Fig. 4 ima. plan viewof a sheet'frorn which the inner wrapper is formed.

`.e-improved package that forms thc subject-matter of this invention is of special utility'in connection with smoking and other types of tobacco, but of course it is not hmited to such use.

The wrapper 1 is folded to provide a substantially flat rectangular package, the longitudinal meetingedges of the wrapper" being overlapped, as indicated at 2,-and pasted` together. The meetingedges of the Wrapper extend centrally and longitudinally of either the upper or lower broad surface of Athe package. 'The ends of the wrapper I` are folded on the dotted lines indicated on Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawings to form the large rectangular flaps 3 through which the overlapped edges of the wrapper extend and which [laps lie against the ends ofthe contents of the package; the side 'flaps 4 which are triangular in shape and overlap the iaps 3; and the outer Haps v5 which overlap the' flaps 3 and 4 and also the meeting edges of the wrapper 1 that extend through the flaps 3. By this arrangement of end flaps, it will be seen that when'the flaps are pasted together, the ends of the package are sealed.

The described manner of folding thejends of the wrapper 1 to provide the'aps that are overlapped and pasted together is a convenient and eliicient one, but the invention is not necessarily limited'thereto.

When the wrapper 1 is folded about the tobacco or other merchandise, it will be s een that the meeting edges of vthe wrapper extend longitudinally of. one broad surface of the package and across both ends, and in additiop when theend -flaps are employed, various overlapped edges occur, and to prelvent air or moisture gaining' access to the contents of the package, a sheet of tin foil 6, or 'other material that is unaffected by atmospheric influences, thatis of a size to completely cover one broad surface of the wrapper and both ends of said wrapper is employed to seal such overlapped edges. This protecting strip or seal G, is pasted over the surface of the wrapper 1 in which the longitudinal meeting edges of said wrapper are located and over the ends of the wrapper, and the ends ot' said strip may slightly overlap and be pasted to the opposite broad surface `of the wrapper, as indicated at 7.

The protecting seal 6 is of thin material compared to theI wrapper 1, and whensecurr-ly and smoothly pasted to said wrapper, is pi artieallv not noticeable. As stated, the protecting sc al .3 covers only the side and ends ol" the wrapper 1, and such is preferred' instead of entirely inclosing the said wrapper, as such entire inclosing is not necessary for the reason that the overlapped edges are only at the ends and one surface of the Wrapper.`

As- 1escribed, it 'will be seen that the package comprises a main ory inner Wrapper that is securely folded about the contents of :the

package and that the main wrapper is preferably heavy tin foil or other air and moisture-proof material', and that said main wrapper is sealed at its-meeting edges by a thin sheet ofitin foil or other air and moisture-proof material. The outer Wrapper 8 has its longitudinal meeting edges lOpaste'd together. and loosely surrounding the package. The Yend flaps 9 are simply folded in. overlapped relation, and are heid in such vposition by means of a seal 11 that is pasted over lthe meeting edges 10 and also over the end flaps. When tobacco or other taxed ood's are'contained in'the package, the seal nue stamp. And it will be clear 'that the 1 may be the reve-y seal 11 reinforces and protects the meeting edges 10, and also prevents the flaps 9 accidentally opening.
