Specification of Letters iatent; if
To all whom it may concern}? i water Be'it known that I', CORNELIUS 'D. S'roM- Lnn, residing at Marine City, in thecounty of St.' Glair and State .of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilets,"of which the following is a specification. v i v g Myinvention, which 'relates 'to that class of sanitary toilets'having means for feeding a disinfectant into the bowl While flushing said bow'hprimarily has'foriits purpose to provide a disinfecting attachment: of a; simple and economical construction, that; can be'readily applied' 'to anyfof the ordi-Y nary types of closet flushing mechanisms, without materially alteringthe said flushingmecha'nisms andwithout much expense. 5
My invention also has forits' purpose; to;
provide a disinfecting attachment 2 for "toi-.
lets adapted for connection with the conventional forms of flushing tank and pipe which the disinfecting feed controlling valve is attached directly to the'trip handleg of the closet flushing valve andis also" 10-; cated withrespect to the disinfectant hold'eri and the water flow pipe to permitthefirst, art of the flushing water to enter the tot? let bowl before-the disinfectantdischarges into and mixes withfthe water circulating within the said b'o\vl,-iand the said attachment also includes means for holding back the charge of disinfectant that passes through the feed controlling valveuntilthe flushing charge about completes its course'and comes to rest within the toilet bowl, the said disinfectant charge remaining with the Water at rest Within the bowl:
until'thenext flushing:- f I With other, objectsin view that'willhere inafter appear, my invention embodies those peculiar features of" construction and novel arrangement of the partshereinafter fully explained, specifically pointed outinlthe ap-' pended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of" he conventional type of toilet and flushing means therefor lwith my invention applied, Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1'. Fig. 3 is ,a -longitudinal section tha't illustratesthe connection of the disinfectant upon one side i I Patent;edNovi10,191 1; s ;,App1ication filed September2,1914. Seria1No.85 9,793.

In the drawings, l designatesthetoilet v bowl, 2, the flushing tank, 3, th'eflow pipe i from' the tank to the bowl," and 4, the trip a handle thatfco'ntrolsthe flush tank valve; a M=yw improveddisinfecting p attachment comprises i a- : tank Y 5, 4 preferably mounted of the flushtankQ, asshown I inFig. '1; i
6 designates the v .ou'tflow pipe from i tank 5, which extends down to near the bot tom of the flush tank 2 and laterally to con nect the disinfectant feed controlling "valve 7 locatedlpdirectly under :the tripper for the flush tankzvalvepthe stem ofwhich,
provedwdisinfectant attachment with parts 1 i separated. F g. 5 is a cross section'ofthe ad ustable"a1rvent device forfthe pipe con ;in "'Ithe1 construction shown, extends-down through the trippercasing 8 and" forms the v stem 9 [for the valve 7, such arrangement ,being'provided so that the flushtankvalve and :the disinfectant feed controlling valve ar simultaneously opened when the tripper ispressed down tofiush the-closet.v
1O design'ates'i the disinfectant flow pipe that connects with the trip a or controlling valve 7 .andflthe said pipe enters the flushing pipes near the outlet endthereof, as
best ,shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, [by referencelto which it-will be noticed the end of the said shaped nozzle 11 that" points in the direction of theooutflow' of, the flushing the "purpose of which -.at a suitpipe 10, terminates in an 'L- water and is provided iwitli a back check nozzle and thetrip valve -7,--the said pipe IOIis providedwith as shown,- the operation a of {feeding a charge ofdisinfectant into the pipe 10, which enters the flushingpipe 3, is positively effectedeachtime the'closet is flushed shqw a 'id ianadjustalolevent valve 13.} By reason of a connecting the valvejthat controls the flow vof the disinfectant to" the flushingjvalve tripper,
direction stated and provid I main until the next flushing, itbei'ng'underscribed, it follows that when the toilet is flushed the water passing through the flushing pipe 3, creates a back pressure in the pipe 10 and thereby closes the valve 12 andholds the disinfecting charge, that passes into the said pipelOwhen the flushing valve was tripped, until the'last portion ofthe flushing water passes through the pipe 3 and thesaid last portion of the water flow creates a suction that opens the valve 2 and thereby allows the disinfectant charge to now flow out and mix with the water stillin circulation through the top part and sides ofthe bowl until it comesfto rest withthe remaining waterin the bowl, there to restood that the said flushingoperations may occur as frequentlyas the tripper is pressed down and a disinfectant charge. 'is'at the same time obtained so long as the supply tank has disinfecting fluid therein. 7
I By providing the disinfectant discharging. pipe-'l0' with an adjustable air vent valve, as shown, theflow ofthe charge. of the disinfectant withinthe saidpipe is gov.- erned by the adjustment of the said vent valve. 7
Another and important advantage of my invention is that the same can be readily applied to the ordinary types of toilets and flushing tanks therefor Without materially changing the flushing means, and at a com-" paratively small cost.
From the forego ng taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the complete arrangement, and the manner .of operating my invention :will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
