nnrmatrrnsar'on noo'ns;
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, CHARLES T. ScHRoYnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chester, in the county of Lake and State of means for preventing the rattling of doors,
especially of automobiles which are of necessity subjected to vibration. A
It has for its object simplicity and economy of construction, ready application and effectiveness in results.
\Nith these ends in view my invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement hereinafter and in detail described.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may know how to make and apply my improved antirattler for doors and appreciate its usefulness, I will proceed to describe the same referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a,
door in closed position and with my antirattler applied to the door and frame. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective View partly in section of what I designate as the keeper to be secured (preferably), within a mortise in the door frame and Fig. 3 is a detail section of the latch freed from its operative parts.
.In the several figures of the drawing like parts are designated by like numerals.
1, represents an ordinary carriage or automobile door and 2 the frame. The door is hung upon ordinary hinges 3-3 and may be provided with any of the well known latching mechanisms, as my improved antirattling latch while adapted for independent use, may be employed as auxiliary to the ordinary latches.
4: is a rectangular block of rubber or other resilient material adapted to be secured to .the jamb or frame of a door by means of suitable screws 5. This block is formed with a V-shape recess 6, and said block may a recess 13 which it may be secured by suitable screws Specif cation of Letters Patent. if desired be located within a suitable Inortise in the door-frame to avoid any projection.
7 is a latch operating, lever of any preferred form, but I have shown it of the simplest form provided with an operating sTA'rns PATENT orrion handle 8, and pivotally connected at its H lower end 9, and provided with a spring pawl 10, adapted to interlock with an arc shaped rack 11.
The latch proper 12 shown clearly at Fig. 3, is composed of the same material as the keeper 4, and is formed at its rear edge with to receive the lever 7, andto or rivets passing through suitable holes 14:.
This latch is V-shape in its vertical direction corresponding with the recess 6 in the keeper a, and it is also V-shape in cross section as shown at 15, in order that when it enters the recess 6 in the keeper under pressure the contacting walls of the keeper'and the latch will becompressed and thus prevent any vibration of the latch and the door and effecting perfect silence of the door.
While I have shown the particular V- shape construction of the keeper and latch, I do not wish to be confined to this exact form, as any other form which willproduce the lateral compression of the contacting walls of the keeper and latch, may be employed.
of application and the operation of my improvements, to secure by Letters Patent is:
what I claim as new and desire Havingfldescribed the construction, mode v1. An anti-rattling latch for doors, consisting of'a keeper of resilient material provided with a recess and a latch or bolt of resilient, material secured to an operating lever and attachable to a door; the form of'the vertical walls of the latch and the keeper being such in cross section as'to secure compression thereofwhen a door is closed. v
2. In an anti-rattling latch for d0ors, a keeper composed of resilient material adapted to besecured to a door frame and formed with a vertical recess of V-form, and a latch of resilient material adapted to be secur'edto a door and having-its front edge of V-form vertically and of similar form in cross section, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In combination with a door and its frame of an anti-rattling latch comprising a keeper having a vertical V-shape recess, and a latch composed of resilient material V: shaped in vertical direction and in cross section, and provided with means for operating the stantially as hereinbefore set forth.
same attached to the door, sub- 10 Witnesses:
