GUIDECARD-TAB STRUCTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 10, 1914.
Aipplicaton filed May 18, 1914. Serial No. 839,347.
To au Lo/mm it may' concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. Cass, a citizen o't the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga. and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guide-Card- 'lab Structures, of which the following is a speeilication.
This invention relates generally to tabs for guide cards and particularly to a celluloid tab structure having an insertible portion.
More specifically the .invention relatesl to :t tab structure consisting ot' an open-ended envelop ot celluloid adapted to receive through the open end a strip upon which may be applied any suitable indication or mark the structure consisting ot several layers of Celluloid amalgamatod into a homogeneous tab structure.
The invention may be further brietly summarized as consisting inthe construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth in the following description, draws and claim.
Ver-ring to lthe drawings Figure 1 is a in side elevation ot the card provided i my insertible tab; Fig. 2 is a rear eleation oil:` the tab structure itself; Fig. Sis an end View looking in the direction of the arrow 3 in Fig. l; and Fig. et is a section oi the tal) structure upon the line indicated by the arrow 4- in Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention any preferred 'form and construction olz card and tab structure may be employed so long' as they possess the nti-.cessary features, but Vl have shown one arrangement and in such embodiment l represents a suitable card having a straight tab edge to which is applied the tab structure.
The tab structure consists of a back oomprising a` card engaging plate portion 3 anc a tab portion It. The tab structure is also made up ot' a front portion consisting ot a card engaging' plate portion 5 and an upper tab portion (3. Between the front and back tab portions is a main body portion 7 substantially of the shape of the tab and pro; vided with a longitudinally disposed recess 8 cut in 'from one end ot' the main body portion to a point near the opposite end and forming a pocket between the front and back tab portions Ytor receiving an insertible strip S) upon which any suitable indication may be placcd.` It is structure that the legend strip 9 may be slipped into the pocket very readily from one end of the tab structure. Thecard engaging plate portions 3 and 5 are for secur ing the tab structure to the card or sheet. ln order to remove the legend strip 9 the back portion of the tab structure is provided with a slot 10 through which a pin or other instrument may be inserted for moving the legend strip out through the end of the pocket.
Having described myinventioml claim- A complete tab structure comprising a main tab bod)r strip of Celluloid throughout. having an insert recess open at one end of the tab, and binderstrips of Celluloid one on each side ot the main tab body strip, amal gamated therewith and extendiiigbeyond the saine to form extensions 'for embracing the card or sheet, said binder strips extending over said recess on both sides ot the main body strip.
Tn testimony whereof affix mv signature in presence ot two witnesses as follows.
