Description

Dec. 25 1923.
R. C. RUSSELL INDEX CARD Filed Nov. 14,
Patented :"l'
1;" E T E srAr INDEX CARD.
Application filed November 14, 1922. Serial No. 600,931.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT C. RUssnLL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Alle- 8 gheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Index Cards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip ion of the invention, such as 10 will enable ot ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in index cardsand more particularly to means for providing the same with a label or in- 1 dicator, one object of thednvention being to provide an index card with a label or 1ndicating member forming an integral part of the cardand adapted to'be folded upon or made to overlie the lower portion of the rear face of the card and expose the inscription on the label through a protected slot in the lower portion of the card.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain features as at hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a card before the label or indicating member shall have been at folded behind the body of the card.'
Figure 2 is a view illustratlng my improvements as they appear on a card ready for use in an index, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a portion of a card and showing a section of the same.
An index card is represented at 1 and the art which is to form the label or indicator is represented at 2.
40 Just above the portion 2, the card is .pro-
vided with an elongated slot 3 and over this slot at the back of the card, a strip 4 of transparent material is secured.
The desired inscription will be printed, written or otherwise produced on the rear face of the label portion 2 of the card and this portion will be then folded back on the line 5 and caused to .lie against the rear face of the-body of the card. to which it will be suitably secured) so t at the in- 5 scription may be viewed through the elongated slot 3 near the bottom edge of the card and be protected by the strip of transparent material disposed between the label member 2 and the back of the card 1. 56
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. An index card havina transparent window near one edge, said card having at 60 the same edge a label member folded behind the body of the card whereby an inscription on said label member may be seen through and protected by said transparent window.
2. An index card provided near one edge with an elongated slot, transparent mate rial covering said slot, and an integral label member at said edge of the card and folded behind the card to expose an inscription on said label member through the slot and '70 transparent material, said label member being secured to the back of the card.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this 7 specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT C. RUSSELL.
Witnesses ROBERT ALEXANDER Dorms, Bnmca WILHELM.
