Description

LME-R N. STACY, OF MlNNEABOLIS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR T DEGARIE INGINEA- vTOR COMPANY, 0F MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, vA CORAPORATION OF MINNESOTA.
INorNEnA'ron.
To all @0.71am 'it 'may c .ern d". -f
Be 1t known that I, rI'mwN-nracig a citizen of the United States, and a resident' of Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minne- Sota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incinerators, of which the following is a specification. i
The object of my invention is to provide an apparatus in which refuse and garbage may be placed and consumed.
A further object is to provide an improved form of'garbage grate, which will allo'w the flames to pass in and around the mass of garbage, thereby efectually drying 4same and hastening the consumption.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description.
The invention consists generally in'various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,` Figure 1 is a vertical, sectional view-through an incineratorembodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a` similar view, taken on a section line at right angles substantially to the section line of Fig. 1.
In the drawing,"2 represents the wall of the incinerator, having a water leg or circulating chamber 3 extending around and the combustion chamber et. This chamber has a flue 5 leading to the stack and a pipe 6 in the top through which refuse from an upper floor maybe discharged into the combustion chamber. An opening 7 is provided in the front wall of the chamber, having a charging door 8. Beneath this charging door is a tiring door9 adjacent to the fuel grate 10 supported on brackets 11 in the lower part of the combustion chamber above the ash pit 12. This ash pit has the. usual door 13 leading thereto. I
Near the rear wall of the combustion chamber and a suitable distance above the fuel grate 10 is a header 14. preferably of extra heavy material and' connected at each end Vith the circulating chamber 3 in the side walls .of the combustion chamber. A series of Astay ,tubes 15 lead from this header outwardly to the front wall of the combus tion chamber communicating with 'thecir- Specification of Letters Patent. Application mea septembei '27, 1913. serial No. 792,117. l
particularly Patented Oct. 20,1914.l
' thrown. Theyl are inclined downwardly and inwardly from ,the front. wall of the combustion chamber to the header and the material deposited on these tubes has atendency to slide inwardly toward the header. A series of similar tubes 1,6 leadfrom the top of the header and communicate with the circulating chamber in the top of the combustion cham-v ber. These tubes 16 are spaced from the rear wall of-thecombustion ehai'nber--so that the flames from the burning fuel on the grate l0 may passup between these tubes and the wall of the combustion cham ber and circulate in and around the mass of refuse or garbage supported by the tubes 15 and the header 1st. l have found that this arrangement will insure ja more complete combustion of the garbage than where it is allowed to'lie in direct contact with the outside walls of theA combustion chamber.
Furthermore, a large area of the circulating tubesis exposed to the flames of the burning In ,various ways the details of construcl tion herein' shown and described mame modified and still 'be within the scope of my invention.
I claim as mty-invention 1. 'An incinerator comprising a combus-4 tion chamber having water circulating chambers 1n its walls and :a fuel grate in the lower part ci' said chamber, a header arranged horizontaliy near the' rear wall of said combustion chamber. above said grateand communicating with said; buter ,circulating chamber, circulatingA tubes extei'rd'ing vertically from'said header to the water cir culating chamber the'rvtop of said combustion chamber, and similia-r tnbesextending forwardlgand upwardly from said headerf' to the front Wall of saidcon'ibustion chamberend also communicating with" said water circulating chamber.
incierator comprising walls hav-` ing-waterfcircula-ting chambers therein; and
'a combustion chamber provided witha -f-uel grate, a header extending transversely of vsaid combustion chamber 'above said' fuel grate and near the' rear wall of said'conibustion chamber, and circulating tubes leading from said header and communicating with said Water circulating chambers inthe front wall -of said combustion chamber, said tubes forming an inwardly and downwardly inclined drying grate, andV the front wall of said combustion chamber having a filling opening above said drying grate.
` 3Q An incinerator comprising a combustion chamber having Water-circulating chambers in I its Walls and a fuel grate in the lower part of said chamber, a comparatively large header pipe extending transversely of said combustion chamber near the rear Wall thereofl and adjacent to said fuel grate and having its ends connected to said circulating chambers, a series of circulating pipes extending upwardly from said header p ipe and communicating with said circulating chambers in the top oi said incinerator, a series of circulating tubes extending upwardly from said header pipe'to the circulating chamber in the top of said incinera-A tor, a series'of similar'tubesextending from Y said header .pipe upwardly and' fqrwardly to the circulating chamberin therfront Wall of said incineration said incinerat'onhaving a filling opening above and near the outer portion of said last named tubes, and a fuel supply door vbeneath said tubes.
In witness `whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of August 1913,
