VEGETABLE-CUTTER. l
Specificationiof Letters Patent.
7 Patented Oct.13, 1914.
Application filed February 11, 1914. Serial o. 818,079.
The invent-ion relates to vegetable cut ters, and has for its primary object to provide a machine of this character wherein the vegetables will be sliced or cut up, the knives for the cutting thereof being mounted in a novel mannerso that they can be readily adjusted to vary the cutting action of the same.
Another object of the inventionis the provision of a cutter of this character wherein the parts thereof arereadily accessible for the purpose of cleaning the blades and other cooperative machine sanltary. p A further object of the invention is the provision of a cutter of this character which is simple in construction, readily and easily operated, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, com= bination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed ward the cutting blades,
out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings:Figure 1 is a side elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the disk or plate carrying the cutters.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the machine comprises a casing A having side plates 5 and 6 respectively, provided with inturned flanges 7,-one of which is adapted to overlap the other, the upper half of the casing A being of semi-circular shape, while formed at the lower edge thereof are outturned wings 8 serving as feet for the casing.
Passed centrally through the casing is a stud shaft 9 having a reduced threaded end 10 which is journaled in one side plate 5 of the casing and carries an adjusting nut parts, thereby rendering. the
the vegetables 11, while'the larger end of the shaft 9 is ournaled'in the other side plate of the said casing. j j
Suitably fixed to the reduced end 10 of the stud shaft 9 is a disk 12 to whichare bolted or otherwise secured at intervals radially disposed outwardly extendin knife blades .13 formed at their outer ends with right angular extensions 14 which are bolted or otherwise secured to a circular hoop' or perimeter band 15, each blade 18 being formed with opposite beveled cutting edges 16 so that the same will cut irrespective of the direction of rotation of the shaft 9 when the machine is operated.
At one side of the blades 13 is a gage plate or disk 17 which is of slightly less diameter than the hoop or band 15 and is formed at intervals with apertures 18 through which are passed guide pins 19 mounted in alternate blades 13, the pins 19 being designed to guide the gage plate 17 toward and away from the said blades 13, the plate being moved in the direction of the blades in a manner presently described.
Surrounding the stud shaft 9 is a sleeve 20 which has its inner end fixed to the gage plate 17, and surroundingthis sleeve is a coiled expansion spring 21, one end of which works against the gage plate 17 and its opposite end works against the side plate 6 of the casing A of the cutter so as to act upon the gage plate 17 to move the same tothereby regulating the extent of cutting action to vary the slices of vegetables or the-like acted upon by the cutting blades during the operation of the cutter. The sleeve is formed with external screw threads 22 at its outer end having thereon a nut 23 which works against the outer face of the side plates 6 of the casing A, and in this manner the relation of the gage plate 17 with respect to the knife blades 13 can be adjusted at will. Mounted on the larger end of the shaft 9 is a crank handle 2d whereby the said shaft can be manually rotated for actuating the cutter.
plate 5 of the casing Formed on the side A is a feed hopper 25 which is supported by means of a bracket 26 carried by the said side plate, and this hopper communicates with the interior of the casing A for the feeding of the vegetables to be cut into the path of the knife blades for the slicingof thereby when the cutter is operated.
a a disk fixed to the shaft interiorly of the casing, a hoop concentric to the disk, cutting blades fixed to the disk and hoop and disposed radially with respect to the shaft, means for feeding material into the path of the blades, means for rotating the shaft, a sleeve carried by the shaft, a gage disk supported by the shaft, resilient means acting upon the gage disk to move the same toward the cutting blades, means for retracting the disk from the plane of the cutting blades, and means on a series of the blades and engageable with the gage disk for guiding the latter and rotating it in unison with the blades.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
