I do declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany ing' drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to brackets, and more particularly to a bracket for use in supporting deflectors in. a window ventilator; the principal object of the invention being to provide a two piece bracket, the members of which may slide over each other to adjust a deflector carried by one of the members, and comprising a friction brake for holding the members in adjusted position. In accomplishing these objects I have provided the improved details of structure herein after described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view of a pair of brackets containing my improvements and illustrating their use in supporting a screen and deflector of a. window ventilator. Referring more in detail to the parts: 1 designates a. window frame, 2 the sill and 3 a sash, of any ordinary construction. Fixed to each side of frame 1 is a wedge-shaped stationary bracket member 4, the lower edge or which sits flush on thevsill, the upper edge having a curved, inturned lip 5 provided with a depending flange (5 forming a downwardly opening groove 7.
At the outer edge oi": the body member are inturned vertical. fiangesS which are spaced to form a groove 9 for receiving a screen member, presently described.
Pivotally mounted on a pin 10 which extends through the lower end ofthe'stationary member 4, and into the window frame, a mm'ahlc bracket member 11 having a curved lip 12 on its upper end provided with a depending flange 13, forming a downwardly 'facing groove 14 similar to the.
groove 7 on the stationary member, the outer end of the'flange 13 havinga laterally directedstop boss 15 adapted for engaging a depending boss 16 on the inner end of the. stationary flange '6 to limit the inward pivotal movement of the movable bracket member.
Fixed to the inturned lip 12 is a spring 17,
which is preferably flat and has a bearing head 18 projected oi'itwardly from the outer end of the lip 12 and adapted to bear against the under face of the lip 5 of the stationary member, to form a friction braho whereby the movable member may be held in any set position.
' At the inner-edge of the movable member are inturned, vertical flanges 20 which are spaced to form a vertical groove 21 for receiving a deflector, presently described.
The bracket just described is duplicated on the opposite window frame so that'the grooves 9-21 in opposite brackets face each other.
22 designates a deflector, preferably of plate which is slidably. mounted in the grooves 21 in the movable bracket members so that it may be removed from and placed. in the bracket when desired.
Similarly mounted inthe vertical grooves 9 on the Stationary member is a screen 23 which is preferably formed in sections and provided with slide brackets '21- whercby the sections may be moved longitlulinally relative to each other to adapt the screen to the brackets and close the outer side ofthe ventilator, to filter air coming in through the window openingaud perform the usual func- I tionsof a screen.
It is apparent that by having the screen longitudinally ad ustable, a stock SIZE may be made so that the brackets .maybev sctin f frames of ditTerent width, the glass cut to fit the brackets and the adjustable screens fitted within their grooves, in this way savingthe cxpcnseof manufacturing screens of different length.
Presuming the parts to be assembled as described, itis apparent that when the win-- dow open to the extentillustrated, air coming in through the opening must pass through thescr'een to filter dust therefrom,

A bracket comprising movahly related members, one having a lateral lip and de pending flange forming an overhanging eeper hood, the ot-her havin; a like lip and flange located within the kcepcr hood and slidable relative thereto; the inner lip bein slotted transversely, and a spring fixed to the under side of the inner lip and having its free endprojccted through said slot to engagement with the keeper lip.
7. A bracket comprising movably related members, one comprising a, transverse lip having a depending flange. and having a stop boss dcpcndingfrom one end of the flange,'a second member pivotally connected with the first member and having a like lipand flange, the last named flange having a laterally. directed stop boss adapted for engagement with the boss on the first named flange to limit pivotalv movement of the parts, and a friction member fixed'to one of said members in wiping engagement with the other member for the purpose set'forth.
