TURPENTINE-DIPPING BUCKET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HnYwAnn A. PAXTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Land, in the county of Volusia and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Turpentine-Dipping Bucket; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful turpentine dipping bucket.
In carrying turpentine in the buckets now in use, the negroes complain that the straight cylindrical sides of the bucket rub the skin, and make sore places on their legs.
Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a bulge in the central portion of the sides of the bucket. To form this bulge the cylindrical wall of the bucket is constructed of upper and lower sections, so shaped and riveted together as to form an enlargement substantially midway of the length of the bucket. The upper and lower sections are seamed longitudinally and riveted together.
A feature of the invention is the provision of a concave bottom, which comprises a circular piece, the annular portion of which is slitted forming overlapping tongues bent downwardly and riveted to the lower section of the wall of the bucket, the body of the circular disk piece being concaved or bulged upwardly within the bucket.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved turpentine dipping bucket constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view vertically through the bucket. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 4 shows views of the blanks forming the upper and lower sections of the wall of the bucket. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the bottom detached from the bucket.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate the upper and lower sections of the wall of the bucket. These sections are riveted together annularly as shown at 3, and riveted together as shown Specification of Letters Patent.

However, before the upper section is bent in shape, the edge portion 7 is rolled upon itself to form a bead 9, and adjacent the head on one side of the bucket a guard 10 is riveted at 11 and soldered at 12. The usual bail-shaped member 13 is connected to the eyes let upon the opposite sides of the upper portion of the bucket and provided with a handle 15. The bottom of the bucket comprises a concaved circular disk piece 16, the peripheral portion of which is slitted forming the plurality of tongues 17, extending downwardly and overlapping one another, and riveted and soldered to the lower portion of the wall of the bucket. The circular seam of the bulge, and the vertical seam of the wall of the bucket are made fluid tight, owing to proper soldering.
From the foregoing in connection with the drawing, it will be noted there has been devised an improved turpentine dipping and carrying bucket, having a bulge midway of its length, thereby preventing the lower edge of the bucket from rubbing sores upon the negroes legs, while carrying turpentine, and one which has ben found practical owing to the improved construction.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is A turpentine dipping bucket being constructed of three sheet metal blanks, two of said blanks being riveted and soldered together annularly, the uppermost one of which overlying the lowermost one to form a circular bulge substantially midway of the height of the bucket, the ends of said two blanks being secured together to form a vertical alined seam, and a concaved bottom having downwardly extending tongues overlapping one another laterally riveted and soldered to the interior surface of the bucket to close the lower end thereof.
