GUTTER-SECTION.

To all whom it may concern:

Be 1t known that I, GERTRUDE HIGMAN, a-

citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gutter-Sections, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to gutter sections,

combined curb and gutter flanges.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a gutter section wherein. the same permits the laying of a pavement and the gutter so as to prevent the accumulation of grass and other matter within the gutter after the formation thereof.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a section of this character which is formed from cementitious mate rial and affords a curbing and a gutter so that the street surface and the pavement can be readily constructed with the gutter sec-' With these and other objects in view, the.

invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved gutter sections constructed in accordance with the invention laid with the street surface and pavement. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of adjacent sections arranged in interlocking relation to each other.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates a street surface, B the pavement, and C the gutter, which latter is constructed in a manner presently described. The gutter is Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed November 29, 1913.

formed from a plurality of sections each made from cement or concrete and is provided with a vertical flange 5 which is integral with and rises medially from a base 6 which extends beyond opposite sides of the vertical flange 5, the latter being longitudinallydisposed with respect to the base and has one end 7 extended beyond the end adj acent thereto of the base while the opposite end 8 1s receded from the end adjacent thereto of the said base so that the protrudedend 7 of the flange on one section will abut against the receded end 8 of an adjacent section so as to overlap the base thereof.

Formed at one side of the flange 5 on each section and rising from its base 6 are anchoring protuberances 9 and 10, one of which is formed with inwardly beveled ends 11 while the protuberances 9 is formed with an inwardly beveled end 12 and a straight end 13. The protuberance 9 on one section is positioned so as to extend beyond one end thereof, while the protuberance 10 on the other section is inset with relation to the end adjacent thereto of its base so that when the sections are arranged in alinement with each other and in abutting relation one protuberance 9 will overlap the base of the section adjacent thereto and abut against the protuberance thereon. When the sectionsarelaid in alinement with each other the asphalt or other cementitious substance constituting the pavement will be packed into the spaces between the protuberancesso that the upper surface will lie flush with the upper edges of the flanges 5 of the sections while the paving blocks A will be disposed against the outer edge of the bases of the sections as shown in Fig. 1, thus forming a gutter between the paving blocks A constituting the street surface and the vertical flanges of the section 0 which serves as the curbing to the sidewalk B.

From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.

What is claimed is 1. A gutter section comprising a pair of sections each being formed with a horizontal portion and a medial vertical portion at right angles thereto, one end of the vertical portion of each section being extended beyond the same and its opposite end being i receded from the remaining end of said section whereby on the laying of the horizontal portions in the same plane with each other the vertical portion of one section willoverlap the end adjacent thereto of the horizontal-portion of the other section, and a plurality of anchoring protuberances carried by the horizontal portion of each section and rising from the upper face thereof at one side of the vertical portion.

A gutter section comprising a pair of sections each being formed with a horizontal portion and a medial vertical portion at right angles thereto, one end of the vertical portion of each section being extended beyond the same and its opposite end being receded from the remaining end of said section whereby on the laying of the horizontal portions in the same plane with each other the vertical portion of one section will overlap the end adjacent thereto of the horizontal portion of anchoring the other section, a plurality of protuberances carried by the horizontal portion of each section and rising from the upper face thereof at one side of the vertical portion, the said-protnberances being provided with inwardly beveled ends.

3. Ar gutter section comprising a pair of sections each being formed with a horizontal portion and a medial vertical portion at right angles thereto, one end of the vertical portion of each section being extended beyond the same and its opposite end being receded from the remaining end of said section whereby on the laying of the horizontal portions in the same plane with each other the vertical portion of one section will overlap the end adjacent thereto of the horizontal portion of the other section, a plurality of protuberances carried by the horizontal portion of each section and rising from the upper face thereof at one side of the vertical portion, the said protuberances being provided with inwardly beveled ends, one protuberance on one section being spaced from the end of the horizontal portion, and the other protuberance on the horizontal portion of the other section being extended so as to overlap the horizontal portion of the adjacent section when the sections are arranged in alinement and in the same plane with each other.
