lle it known that I, JOHN H. BERNHARD, a citizen Aof the United States, residingat McGregor, in the county of Clayton and -State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tank-Heaters; and I do declare the following to be a full,
l clear. and exact description of the invention,
such'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in tank heaters, and the main object thereof is to provide a simply constructed device of this character having efficient means for protecting the burner in said heater from rain or wind and from any water of condensation which may be formed in the top of the heating chamber.
With this and other objects in View, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and combination Vherein described andvclaimed and shown in the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a'vertical longitudinal section of my improved heater, and Fig. 2 is a detail vertical section on line 2-2 of Fig. l.
In the drawings, I have shown my tank heater as comprising a heating chamber 1, a burner 2 disposed therein, a fresh air intake pipe 3 for said heating chamber, a warm air outlet pipe 4 opening into the top of said chamber, and a -casing 5 supported bythe upper ends of the pipes 3 and 4.
' Supported within the heating chamber 1 and spaced from the top thereof by means of a stud 6 and nut 7 thereon, is a dripping plate 8 having a depending apron 9 around its outer edge and being provided with an opening 10, disposed beneath the opening in the outlet pipe 4, said opening beingV provided with an upwardly. and inwardly extending flange 11. The opening 10 and its flange l1 are of less diameter than the opening within the pipe 4 for a purpose toy appear.
A fuel feed pipe 12 leads from the burner 2 throughthe air intake pipe 3, and is pro vided on its upper end with a funnel 13 and a branch 14. A fuel reservoir 15 is supported on the branch 14 and said branch beneath the reservoir 15 is provided with a drip cock 16 adapted to control the flow of fuel from the reservoir 15, through the pipe 12 to the burner 2.
The casing 5 is provided with a bottom hinged top 18, and a partition 19 having flanges 20 along -its opposite sides, said flanges 20 being secured to the casing 5 by.
rivets 21. By providing the casing 5- with the partition 19' I form a flue 22 and a fuel compartment 23. It will be seen by reference tothe drawings, that the warm air outlet pipe 4 passes through t-he bottom 17 into the flue '22, said flue being provided with' ventilatin holes 24 at its bottom, heat discharging ho es 25 near its top and a removable cap 26. The fuel compartment 23, into which projects the upper end'of the air intake pipe 12, is provided with a door 27 and a plurality of air inlet holes 28 inV its bottom. Rods '29 pass through the pipes 3 and 4 into the opposite flanges of the bottom 17 for securely holding the casing 5 in place on the pipes 3 and 4. If desired, I may insert a coil 30 in the upper portion of the heating chamber 1, its inlet end 31 projecting through one side of the chamber at a comparatively low point, and its outlet end 32 passing through the opposite side thereof at a higher point. It is to be understood that the flange 11, being of less diameter than the opening 10, will prevent any condensed moisture from falling from the pipe 4 and entering the heating chamber through the opening surrounded by lsaid flange.

In a device of the character described, a heating chamber, a burner located therein, and a warm air outlet at the topl thereof, a drip plate within said chamber carried by and spaced from the top thereof, said drip plate being provided with an opening beneath said warm air outlet and having an upwardly projecting flange around said opening of a smaller diameter thanA said warm air outlet. l i

In a device of the character described, a heating chamber, a burner located therein, a fresh air intake for the lower end of said chamber and a warm air outlet from the top thereof, a coil within said chamber and opening through the opposite sides thereof, a drip'plate of greater diameter than Said 17 having a depending ilange 17', with a i coil disposed within-said heating chamber and spaced from the top and sides thereof, said plate having a Warm air outlet surrounded by an upstanding ange and a depending apron around its outer edge, said flange being dis osed below the Warm air outlet from said eating chamber and being of less diameter than the same.
3. The combination with a submergiblel heating chamber having a burner therein, a fresh air inlet pipeA and a Warm air outlet pipe rising from said chamber, of a casing having openings in its .bottom for the recept-ion of said pipes, and a flange depending from said bottom, rods passing through said pipes near their upper ends and projeotin through apertures in said flange, an
