To all whom it may concem Be it known that '1,' AUGUST HENKEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined N ail-F iles and Cuticle-Knives, of which `the following is a specication. Y

The invention relates to manicure implements and has for an object to provide an implement embodying a nail filev and cutlcle blade. f 4

The invention embodies, among other features, a blade having a nail ile thereon, the said blade being movable on a casmg on which is mounted a cuticle blade, the first mentioned blade being movable toja'ctuate the cuticle blade'for the purpose of moving the sameinto oriout of the casing and locking the same in open position.

My invention further embodies a device in which the nail lel can be used independently of the cuticle blade, the cuticle blade being in this instance folded within the cas-Y ing, thus obviating an danger to the user and protecting the cutlcle blade during the use of the nail file.

, Referring more particularly to the views, l employ a blade 10 provided with 'a nail -le 11 and terminating at one end thereof in a pointed portion 12 and at the other end thereof in an integral shank 13 having a locking head 14 integrally formed 'on the outer end thereof, a cutv away portion 15 being provided adjacent the locklng head and vval1- integral tongue 16 beingarrangedto project out wardly from the blade 10 adjacent the .inner end of the shank 13. l A casing 17 having open ends and an open side, is piv- Aotally mounted on the blade 10 at the point 18 so that the tongue 16 will lie within the casing 17 and the shank 13 will act as a closure for the open side of the casing, the locking head 14 being adapted to project into the casing. Now assuming that vthe cuticle blade' is in closed position as shown in Fig. 1, when it is desired to open the same, the casing 17 is swung on the cuticle blade 10 and this movement of the casing will cause the end of the tongue 16 to engage the free end ofi the cuticle bla-de 19 and move the same parvtially outward from the casing 17. rlhe outwardly projecting part of the cuticle blade 19 is nowv grasped bythe user and thev cuticle blade is swung into open position, it being understood'that the notch 20,' .en-

When it is desired to move lthe cuticle blade into closed position, the Casing 17 iS swung away from the shank 13, after which the user grasps the free end of the cuticle .blade and moves the same to lparj'tialllly'closed o t e cuticleposition so that the free' en blade will lie between the shank 13 and the tongue. 16.
