To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK ESTER- BECK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing. in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Savings-Banks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to a pocket savings bank which maybe conveniently carried in a pocket by the user and serve as a depository for coins dropped thereinto, the invention having for its object the production of a pocket savings bank that maybe manufactured at a minimum of expense, that may be securely bound before beingput into use, and that has a simple guarding means at the inlet. I

My savings bank is one intended more particularly to be used by customers of savings institutions, the intention being that a bank shall be used but once, discarded when opened by the savings institution and replaced by a new bank furnished in lieu of the old one; hence, the necessity for inexpensiveness of the bank as contemplated by my improvement will be apparent.

In the drawings: A designates the casing sections of my bank, these-casing sections being two in number and of like construction. The casing sections may be made of any suitable stiil material, but are preferably of sheet metal, and each section comprises a side member 1 having an edge flange 2, which extends continuously throughout the side member, the two sections being .of uniform dimensions so that the edges of their flanges may fit or abut against each other when the sections are placed together, whereby a box like structure is formed. The edge flange 2 of each section isc'ut at two separated points in one of the walls of the bank forming sections, as seen at 3, and the material between the points at which the flange iscut is bent inwardly, thereby producing a tongue 4, which is preferably of greater length than the length of tongue that would be provided by cutting the tongue from the flange only,

length being secured by including in the blanks from which the sections-A are formed an excess of material which extendsbeyond the main edge of theflange forming portion of the blank.

The tongues 4 extend and converge inwardly from the points at which they are joined to the flanges of sections A, from which they are in part produced; and, when the sections are assembled, they incline toward each other to furnish an inwardly narrowing inlet into the bank comprising the sections A as its main members, through which coins may be deposited in the bank, the tongues serving as guard members to prevent extraction of the coins, due to their inner ends being arranged in juxtaposition to each other. I

Inasmuch as the edges of the flanges of the sections A abut against each other and said sections are, therefore, not engaged or interlocked to prevent lateral movement of one relative to the oth'er,it is necessary to provide means for-preventing such lateral this greater movement. It will be apparent that when the stay member 5 has been introduced into one of the sections A to occupy a position therein in contact with the inner wall of the edge' flange of said section, the other section.
