BEETHA I-I. BREOKENFELD AND MARY M. CAIN, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
LOOM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, BERTHA H. Brown- ENFELD and MARY M. CAIN, both citizens of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, California, have invented a new and useful Loom, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a loom adapted for weaving bags or other articles, and one object of the invention is to so construct the loom that it may be used for Weaving bags or articles of diiferentsizes.
Another object is to provide for securely holding the threads at the ends of the loom.
Other objects and advantages will be brought out in the following description.
Referring to the drawingsFigure l'is a side elevation of the loom, showing a partially completed bag thereon; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the loom in detail; Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation of an edge of the loom; Fig. 4: is a section on line 02*w* Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a vertical section on line w w Fig. 9.; Fig. 6 is an enlarged section on line a;:c Fig. i; 7 is a perspective of an end corner portion of part of the loom; Fig. 8 is a perspective of another corner portion of the loom; Fig. 9 is a perspective of a tongue in detail.
The loom comprises a stiff plate 1, formed preferably of wood and provided on opposite edges with notches 2, the outer portion of each notch being beveled as at 3. The notches 9. are provided to receive the threads A of the article which is to be woven, and the beveled portions of the notches make it easier for the threads 4 to be inserted in the notches. The. end edges 5 are plain and the corners of the board are provided with special notches 6 which are transverse to the notches 2, as clearly shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the notches 6 acting to receive the end threads 7 and hold them in proper position along the plain edges of the board.
The board is preferably constructed of two or more sections, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 4. The width of these sections may be proportioned as desired. For example, the section A may be the widest, section B somewhat narrower, and section C the narrowest. Thus by removing sections B and C a bag or other article the width of section Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 21, 1913.
Patented Oct. 6,1914.
Serial No. 780,165.
A may be woven. If it is desired to' weave a narrow deep bag or article the section (I may be employed; while for bags or articles of intermediate size the section B may be utilized. It is also possible to combine the sections together to produce other widths; thus sections A and B may be combined, or sections A and C, or sections B and C, thereby giving a considerable variety of widths.
In order that the sections may be employed singly we provide the section A with transverse corner notches 6 and the section B with corner notches 6 and the section C with corner notches 6.
The sections A, B and C may be secured together in any desired manner, but preferably by means of tongues 8 which are preferably constructed of individual strips, and the sections are grooved at- 9 to receive the strips. With the three sections A, B and C there will. be two tongues 8 employed, one of which is between sections A and B, and
the other between sections B and C. One
tongue will preferably be glued or otherwise permanently secured to the section A and another one to the section B.
In using the loo-m the threads 4 and 7 are arranged thereon as indicated, and cross-threads lO'ai'e then woven.
lVhat we claim is:
1. A loom comprising a plate with notches in opposite edges thereof, said notches extending transversely of the edges in which they are formed, the corner portions of the plate having other notches which are arranged transversely of the first notches.
2. A loom comprising a plate formed of a plurality of detachably connected sections, each section having notches in opposite edges thereof, and each section having corner notches arranged transversely to the first notches.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands at Los Angeles, California, this 15th day of July, 1918.
