AWNING-BLIND HINGE AND HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN LOGKHART, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Tarrytown, in the county of Nestchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Awning-Blind Hinges and Holders, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to hinges and holders for use in connection with window shutters, awnings, blinds, and similar articles, and the object thereof is to provide improved devices of this class by means of which window shutters may be used as ordi nary shutters, or partly as shutters and partly as shades or awnings, and by means of which other articles of the class referred to may be similarly used, and with this and other objects in view, the invention consists in hinges and holders of the class specified, constructed and operating as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention described and claimed here in is an improvement on that described and claimed by me in Letters Patent of the United States granted to me October 21, 1918, No. 1,076,637, and is fully disclosed in thefollowing specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which, the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a part of a window frame and indicating the window opening in full and dotted lines, and showing one of a pair of shutters constructed according to my invention, part of the shutter construction being also in section ;Fig. 2 a section on the line 22 of Fig. 3 ;-Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Figs. 1 and 5 detail sectional views of the construction shown in Fig. 1.

parts 0 and 0 of the shutter are in aclosed position, the said shutter may be turned outwardly in the manner of an ordinary shutter, as hereinafter described.

At each side of the window frame are secured bars 6, only one of which is shown, to correspond with the shutter shown, and the bar 6 is off-set from the side of the frame and may be secured thereto in any desired manner, but in the construction shown, said bar is provided with endprongs e which are driven into the frame. I

The lower end of the shutter member 0 is connected with the bar eby means of an arm f composed of channel iron, or other suitable metal, and the bar 6 passes loosely through the inner end of the arm f, as shown in Figs. 1, a and The channel in the arm f is directed downwardly and the inner end of said arm is provided at the top thereof with a vertically arranged lug f and at the bottom thereof with a transverse member f and the bar 6 passes between the parts f and F.

The outer end portion of the arm f is provided centrally of the bottom thereof, or within the channel therein with a lug f adapted to pass through a corresponding I aperture 6 in the lower end portion of the bar 6, and with this construction the inner end portion of the arm 7 may be moved vertically on the bar 6, and may also be swung into a vertical position thereon, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which position the bar 6 will be inclosed in the arm f, and the object of the lug f is to aid in holding the arm f and shutter member 0 against movement when said shutter member is in a closed position.

Loosely connected with the outer end of the arm f, as shown at g, is a hinge member 9 and connected with the bottom part of the sash member 0 as shown at 9 is a hinge member 9 provided with hinge members g and the hinge member 9 fits between the hinge members 9 and a pintle pin g is passed therethrough, as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 8.

The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawif the part a of the shutter be open, as shown in Fig. l, and it is desired to close the same, all that is necessary is to more the inner end oi the arm 7 upwardly, and the part c of the shutter will swing into the closed position, the arm f assuming the vertical position, shown in said figure.
