Be it known that I, FRANK P. 'GAWLEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Diying Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a hair drying device, and the objects of my invention are, to provide an adjustable frame that can be easily placed upon the shoulders to support the hair in a position that permits of air circulating through the same and quickly drying the hair, and to provide a simple and inexpensive drying frame that can be placed upon the shoulders to support the hair, the frame being constructed whereby it can be rocked to move the hair and allow air to circulate through the same or fixed to permit of a person performing certain duties while the hair is drying.

Other objects of my invention are to pro vide a hair drying device that permits of the hair being moved and shifted when drying the same in the sun or before a fire without handling the hair with. the hands, and to provide an adjustable hair supporting frame that prevents the hair from contacting with the back and spoiling a garment. 1

Further objects of my invention are to provide a hair drying device embodying a corrugated hair supporting member having upturned ends cooperating with the corrugations of said member in preventing the hair from becoming accidentally displaced tl erefrom, and to accomplish the. above results by a mechanical construction that readily adapts itself to the shoulders without causing any inconvenience or special atten tion by the wear.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

it hair drying device in accordance with this invention comprises shoulder pieces, arms, and a hair supporting frame. The shoulder pieces are designated 1 and are made of a single piece of wire bent whereby the shoulder pieces will conform to the shoulders of the body. The shoulder pieces are connected by a breast piece 2 and this breast piece can be connected to a garment 3 by a cord 41, pin or other fastening device. The shoulder pieces 1 have the rear ends thereof twisted or otherwise connected togethen'as at 5 with one end of a shoulder piece terminatingin an eye 6. The twisted ends of the shoulder pieces are vertically disposed and extending through the eye 6 is a screw 7 provided with a nut 8. The

screw 7 and the nut .8 retain eyes 9 frictionally in engagement with the eye 6, and the eyes 9vform part of the lower termini of one of the arms designated 10. The inner ends of the arms'are also vertically disposed and clamped together by a sleeve 11. The arms 10 are segmental in plan and the outer ends thereof are radially disposed, as at 12 to hold the corrugated or scalloped hair supporting member 13 spaced from the arms 10. The ends of the member 13 are formed integral with the ends of the arms 10 and are bent upwardly, as at 1 1 to cooperate with the corrugated or scalloped frame in retaining the hair upon said memher. The hair supporting member cooperates with the arms 10 in forming a segment-shaped skeleton structure that extends rearwardly from the back of the neck and supports the hair away from the body, as shown in Fig. 1. It is through the medium of the pivot between the arms 10 and the shoulder pieces 1 that the hair supporting member can be positioned at a to correctly support the hair whereby air can circulate through the same.

In Figs. 5 and 6 the pivot connection fastening the shoulder pieces and the arms 10 is dispensed with and the ends of the arms and the ends of the shoulder pieces connected by a sleeve 15 that is mounted upon the desired angle ends of said arms and the ends of said shoulder pieces. with and the ends of the arms twisted, as at 16.

In Fig. 7 the shoulder pieces and arms are made of the same piece of wire and the vertical portion between the shoulder pieces and arms formed by twisting the wire together, as at 17.

From the foregoing it will be observed that I have devised a corrugated or scalloped segment-shaped adjustable hair supporting frame that is provided with means whereby it can be supported at the rear of the body from the shoulders thereof, and furthermore, that the device can be made of a single piece of wire to serve the same purpose as the device made of more than one piece of wire and having certain adjustments.

A hair drying device comprising a segment-shaped corrugated member, means adapted to be mounted upon the shoulders of a person for supporting said member above the shoulders and spaced from the neck of a person, the ends of said member being extended upwardlr and disposed at right angles: with respect to the corrugations of said member.
