Description
C. A. MBURER.
ACROBATIC TOY.
APPLIOATION1ILED JAN.20,1913.
Patented Sept. 29, 1914.
CHARLES A. MEURER, orcrnrmnon PARK, OHIO.
, ACROBA'IIC for.
Specification 1 Letters Patent)- Application filed January 20, 1913. Serial No. 743,005. i
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A. Mnnnnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident. of the village of Terrace Park, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Acrobatic Toys, of which the following is a full, clear, and accurate description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an amusing toy in which figures mounted on a horizontal bar may be causedto perform astonishing acrobatic feats by merely shifting the support for the bar, the movements being regulated and controlled by the angle of inclination given the support, and in which no springs or other mechanical means are employed.
The invention consists of that certain novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter particularly pointed out and claimed. whereby the above results are obtained.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my gravity toy. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the horizontal bar with the figure removed.
The apparatus is preferably mounted in.a
close the toy device when folded and the box serves as a convenient base. Sockets are formed in the side walls of the box to receive the standards 3, 3. These standards at their upper ends pivotally support at its middle portion the track 4, whichis formed in the shape of a closed loop withparallel sides 5, 5. A bar 6 is provided with grooved rollers 7 7, at the ends, to ride on the parallel sides 5, 5, of the track. On this bar preferably two acrobatic figures 8, 8, are mounted, the arms and legs of the figures being properly articulated with their respective bodies, with the arms secured to and represented as grasping the bar. Secured at each end of the track structure is a cord 9, 10, each cord running through an eye 11 at its respective end, preferably se cured to the end wall of the box structure,
and thence each cord passes out through an opening 12, 13, neareach end of one of the side walls of the box.
The figures on the bar are properly counterbalanced, and, as illustrated, the two figures on opposite sides are of the same weight. A single figure without counterbalance, or figures of unequal weight would have the effect of preventing the horizontal bar from rolling on the track, and the movement of the figure or figures would be prevented. v p
To operate the device, the operator pulls on one of the cords, lowering one end of the track and raising the opposite end, and the weight of the bar] and figures causes the bar to roll along the track, and by manipulating the cords the horizontal bar is rolled back and forth along the track as desired.
With the rotation of the bar,the acrobatic figures swing around the bar, and the figures take all sorts of amusing and astonishing positions. The twisting and turning of the figures and the movement of the horizontal bar are entirely controlled by the pulling of the cords, and the movement is stopped and reversed or continued in the same direction with very slight variation in the position of the track. i
In order to prevent the bar from rolling off of the track, stops 14, 14, are provided. box 1, provided with a sliding lid 2 to in- Having thus described my invention,.what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letdle portion on the side supports in horizonbase and side sup tal position, a bar with grooved rollers adapted to ride on said track, and counterbalanced acrobatic figures secured to said bar, to rotate therewith, with the arms and legs of the figure jointed to the body portion, to allow free movement. a 8. In a toy device, a base and side supports, with a track of parallel rails secured together and pivotally mounted at its midto both ends of the track structure, to shift 10 dle'portion on the side supports in horizon the track in either direction as desired. tal position; gmbar with grooved rollers i to allow free movement, and cords attached i 4- ;z .4 4 5 adaptd-toiideron said t1ack,iarid couriter- Balanced acrobatic figures secured to said Attest: bar, to rotate therewith, with thearms z nd 1 l H LEN L.
