Referring to the drawings, the clasp is provided with a metallic loop 1, which is secured to the smaller end of a wedge shaped member 2 preferably formed of pressed metal.

$T E$ KTO 1 the stirrup llis at the sma-l erend of the wedge, and the jaws are gradually closed by the movement-0f the wedge through the stirrup so that when the stirrup has reached such a position that the clamping ends of the jaws are directly over the large end of the wedge member 2, the jaws will be entirely closed.

It should be noted that wedge member 2 constitutes the operative member of the clasp, the strap 3 or'other supporting connection through which a pull may be 11nparted to the clasp, being connected to the small end of the wedge so that the greater the pull upon the small end of the wedge, the more firmly will the jaws grip the material held thereby. That isto say, when the clasp is in operation, a constant pull may be transmitted to the device through the supporting connection 3 which may be of elastic webbing or the like, which will cause the jaws to grip the material held thereby more tightly, and similarly the pull of the material held by the jaws, or the weight thereof, will cause the jaws to grip the same more tightly, the greater the pull, since the upper end of the wedge is held orsupported as stated. It also should be understood that when the are in closed position they are directly over the large metal bent into U shape in cross section as shown in Fig. 2

It should be understood that while We have particularly described for purpose of illustration the preferred form of our invention, the invention is not limited thereto but is as broad as is indicated by the following claims 1 Having describedour invention what we claim as newand desire to protect by Letters Patent is v l.
