. To all whom it may concern Be it known that.I,'O'rro BANNER, a subject of the GermanEmperor, and resident of Easton, in the county of'Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have 'invented a new and useful Improvement in Turbine- Engines,'of -which the following is a specification. i

Practical embodiments ot' the invention are represented in the accompanying draw ings, in whichl Figure 1 is a view'o'f the engine half in side elevation and half in longitudinal' central vertical section showing one form of inlet, and Fig. 2 is a detail section showing a modified form of inlet.
The engine shaft is denoted by 1, the blade wheels which are fixed thereto by 2, and their row of blades by 3. The casing is provided at its ends with chambers 1 and 5 communicating with their outlets (5 and 7.,
In Fig. 1 the casing is shown as provided with a transversely divided 'chamber 8, 9, communicating lwith the divided intermediate inlet 10, 11, and having the oppositely arranged rows of nozzles 12, 13.

In the accompanying drawings, the turbine engineis shown as provided with four stages upon each side of the motive fluid inlet chamber and the wheels as having single rows of `blades but the number of stages and the numberrof rows of blades may be varied' It will be seen that in a turbine engine constructed as herein set forth, the motive Huid will enter the turbine engine intermedia-te its ends and will pass therefrom toward the opposite ends of the engine where it will be permitted to escape through separate, outlets thus permitting a very ready and rapid exhaust of the motive fluid.
In that arrangement in which the inlet chamber is divided, the admission of the motive Huid may beso controlled as to permit the same to be admitted to one set of wheels while the other set of wheels is turning idly up to a predetermined load and then permit the admission of the motive iiuid to the idly running set of wheels.
