Morino-.PICTURE MACHINE.:
lTo all whom'z't may concern vBe it known that L'HARRY Moiirnn, a citizen of tli'e United States, residing at- Dal-las, in the countyv of. Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in `MovingPicture Machines, of which the following is 'a specification,- reterenceb'eing had ings.'` l
This invention comprelieiids certain new and useful improvements infinoving picture machines and has for a primary' object to generally improve the parts of the machine and to provide vinea-ns for moving the projector to' correspondwith the movement of the tilin, thus making the pictures clearer. Another object is to generally improve and siinplifi7 the construction and operation of the' various partsof the machine and provide means foi' iea'dily adjusting the film `guiding means, whereblyT the film ,may be adjusted with respect to the lens within the projector.
.` `liith'the above and other objects in view.l
this invention consists in the lnovel `features of construction, and inthe combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims in which I y l Figure 1, is a view-of the complete machine in side elevation. FigQ, is a front Fig. 3, is an enla'rged detail horizontal cross sectional view through thev projector -and its guide strips,
said view being ta'ken'oii the line 3 3 of Fig. # 1. Fig. i, is an enlarged detail vertical c'ross'sectionalview on the lineal-1 of Fig.
1. Fig.' shutter.
Referring more speciiicallyto the drawings in which similar vreference characters designate corresponding parts,- 1 designates 5, is a detail elevational view ot the Athe base,supported/b)Y the legs 2 at its corners and ha ing the lantern boX 3 positioned upon its .rear end while. the standard l pre1 which the film G is ted, sain jects up 'ardly from one ofthe forward cori nersI of the base-and supportsthe reet.) from reel being 'rotatablv mount-ed upon the shaft T carried' in the upper `end of the standard i. lThe receiving reel 8 is mounted upon a shaft 9 carried in the lower end of tliestandard 1, 'beneath the .base 1 and the reel 8 receives the* to the accompanying draw- Speciiicaton of Letters atent. Patntd Sgpt, 22, 1914:, Application aied February 26,1913. semi No. 750,899. l
iilin G atter the latterhas passed between the .guide strips lO'and 11 adjustably positioned said strips. The guide strips 10 and 11 are secured to' the forward standards 13 which are' connected at theirupper vends by the.
cross -i'iiemhe'r',1417 the lower ends of the standards 13 being secured to the movable carriage 15 which ma;vv be adjusted longitudinally of the base 1 by rotating' the wheel .16 upon the shaft l? which has pinions 1S mounted thereon and engaged with `the iacl-:s '19 upon the base 1, as will be readily understood.. rIfhe curvature or" the ends of' the guide strips 10 and 11, inwardlv of their turned'` extremity nia v be regulated by the bolts Q0 and 91. the bolts 20 being positioned through the cross member 1l while the bolts are positioned through the lower cross member connecting the lower ends of the standards 13. j r The longitudinal shaft Q8 is rotatably ena o'ed through' the upper cross member H and through the cross member Qi projecting from the kside of the standard 4. A lower cross member Qis secured to the basel with one end engaged against the standard l and said cross member isparallel with the cross a einher Si.' The rear aces of the cross members 21- and 25, are curved and have the opposite ends of the vertically extending projector-guide strips 2G secured thereto by means of the bolts 2T and 28, respectirely, the strips another and hai-'ing slight movement be-` tween the cui' ed faces oi the cross"members iii and 25 and the heads of their respective bolts' 2T andQS. The `projector l2 isvpro- '.ided with vertical slots "28) inthe opposite sides of its wide portion 12 to, accommodate the guide -strips 2G and permit the props -tor to slide vertically .between the guide strips. The strips 2G and the slots 2S) are curved to correspond, thus permitting the lprojector to ino've in an arc and as said pro' 'jet-tor, which carriestlie forward `erpro- '5 being in spaced relation to one` -jected -lens- 30 in the usual manner, 4moves downwardly with eachpicture, a steady focus is retained for each lpicture thrown upon the screen, the curvature of-said strips .'26 and .slots 29 depending upon` the distancev f between the projector and thescreen', as'will i be clearly'understood.
'The projector 12 has an its rearupp'er edge and extending upwardly --shaft '23,'. which cam Wheel serves-to .force theproje'ctor 12 ,downwardlyvyith each pic-l -and engaged withth'efcam Wheel 32 upon the ture; The extension-'31 :is retained in. en-
@gagement with the cam wheel 32 and the projector automatically returned to normal 'position after each picture, bymeans of .the
springs 33'and" 34, the spring 33 being se cured by onefend t the projector outwardly o f the guide' strips :Z6-while its opposite end is secured to the cross member 24. The' shaft and. has the-belt 38 engaged therearound, by means of which belt the shaft .23' is'rot'ated.
. -The belt 38 passes around a series of rollers 39. between the belt wheel 37 and the large pulley 40 on the shaft 41 upon which the pulley 42 is mounted, said pulley 42 being driven by the belt 43. from the drive pulley44 upon vthe drive shaft 45. The
From the foregoing 1t will be. apparent4 that I have provided a moving picture ma-I extension 31 upon chine in 'which the pictures may be focused on the, screen by adjusting the carriage 15 to move the film, instead of adjusting the lens. The maushine4 is also constructed so that the projector and lens carried thereby will have a motion corresponding to the movement of each picture upon the film during the time it is projected upon the screen, thus retaining the same in focus and thereby making thepicture clear. Further, the reciprocating movement of the projector is caused by a cam carried upon the same shaft as the 'rotary shutter and owing tojthe construction and arrangement of the various parts r of the machine, the same may be lreadily adi` justed, as desired, and retained in adjusted position. The film may be readily adjusted upon the screen by adjusting the frame 46 to bring the picture on the center of the vscreen as will be clearly understood by referring to the drawing. e
Owing to the extremely simple construction and arrangement of the parts of the machine, the cost of the same will be reduced and the machine will be highly efficient and durable in use.
IWlhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be apparent thatminor changes in the details of construction may be made Within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Havingl thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A moving picture machine comprising a base, a longitudinal shaft mounted above the base, a rotary shutter upon one end of the. shaft, apulley upon the. opposite end of the shaft, a cam .wheelmounted upon the shaft., a projector mounted above the base and engaged with the cam wheel, means for feeding a film rearwardly of the projector, a lantern box rearwardly of the film and shutter, the cam wheel causing the projector to move downwardly with each picture upon the film, means for causing upward movemert of the projector at the end of each picture projection, and means for driving the pulley.
2. A. moving picture machine comprising base, means for supporting the base, al longitudinal shaft 'above the base, a cam wheel upon the shaft, a shutter'upon `the shaft, a pulley upon the shaft, film guides upon the base, means for adjusting the film guides longitudinally of the base, film reels mounted aboveand below the base, a frame pivo'ted at one end beneath the base, means for retainingthe frame in adjusted position,
